invoice had a copy and paste logo from PAYPAL. Since I had recently used my PAYPAL account for Black Friday purchases I called the number to report this was not mine. A man identifying himself with PAYPAL security said his name was Kevin Wilson, and he would follow up on this invoice but needed to access my bank account remotely. He gave me instructions how to give him the remote access and said they could reimburse 317$. He then transferred me to another person who would show me on my computer where in my bank account the $317.00 charge was listed. That person identified himself as Sid Watson (804-624-6204. I do not know how these people can manipulate what you are seeing on your bank account screen but he put the arrow on a 317$ charge on my account showing account activity on Nov.26. He said his security team would be able to reimburse 250$.He then put the cursur arrow on where I could type the 250.00$ As I started to type in 250 it changed to 25000$. My mouse froze and I could not delete the extra zeros, Then he became very agitated on the phone that I had made the mistake and I needed to fix it or he would lose his job. I could hear him talking to someone in the background saying he would lose his job. I'm 78 years old and not that computer savy so thought my mistake would cost this man his job . I asked why can't my bank fix it and he said if you tell them about this they will close your bank account. I didn't want to have to do this as my husband and I have autopay for almost all our monthly bills, and we would have to change all direct deposit as well. I was told to go to my bank and withdraw 25,000 cash and go to a Bitcoin machine they looked up and said was close to my bank location . I didn't even know what Bitcoin was. I did drive down to our US bank and withdrew the cash. Because I did not want my account closed and thought by doing this the money would be restored back into my account as they told me it would. Once outside the bank Sid called me and said I needed to photo the front and back of my drivers license in order for me to use the Bitcoin machine. ( I have since replaced my drivers license with a new license due to fraud. Once at the machine he sent me a screenshot of what to type in the machine for access. He said it was his Bitcoin number.(bc1q9fxqrefewplmqj3063axxwjzixerwqra7lf5w5) He stayed on the phone the entire time. After transaction was complete Sid said he would call me when the money was back into our bank account. The next day it was not there and we only had 3200$ left in our account, I notified my bank fraud department and they immediately closed the account. I called Sid's number and he texted back he was in a meeting but would call me later, which he never did. I filed a report with the Washoe County Sheriff Office, the FTC ( report number 181684990), and the Internet Crime Complaint Center . Detective Spaulding with the WCSO was able to track the Bitcoin address given to me by Sid Watson to L Bank in Singapore. He stated once the money leaves the country there is no way to get it back. My bank said their case was closed because I had withdrawn the money. I have since learned from family members that the scammers followed the movie showing on Netflix called the Beekeeper to identical dialogue and technique they used. Recently a woman in Nevada fell victim to the identical scam except this time the 25,000$ was going to be picked up in person. The news reported that woman called the Sheriff and they were waiting for them at her house. The couple from California was arrested. I am reporting my complaint to your department because Secretary of State Aguilar , when reintroducing SB 76 to the Nv, Legislature, said that people are reluctant to report these crimes due to embarrassment and shame. I hope my misfortune will help other seniors in the future to not fall victim to these scammers.
