The scammer answered an ad on Autotrader.com. He had a wild background story as to why he could not pick up the car himself and why he could only send a personal check as payment. He sent me his (fake) driver's license as a proof of identity. When I insisted on a secure payment method such as cashier's check or direct money transfer, he stopped texting to me and disappeared. Classical online scam. My son was defrauded like that in the past where he deposited a check and then the check bounced days after the transaction took place.
