I applied for a position with Appen USA on their website and was contacted by a recruiter through Microsoft Teams for an interview. I then interviewed with their "virtual HR assistant" and had to answer 18 questions about customer service. Then supposedly a recruiter reviewed my answers and offered me employment. I accepted the offer and then completed the "onboarding" where they took my bank account information, driver's license, social security card, and other personal information including a utility bill "to verify my identity". After completing all of that I couldn't proceed until I paid for classes that were "required" to start the role (this was never in the job description). The classes were around $200 total. I emailed the recruiter and said I couldn't afford the classes and asked how to proceed. I never received a reply and when I tried to log back into their "portal" I couldn't. I then found out there's a company called Appen that this company is impersonating.
