Type of a scam Tax Collection

A recording left a message on my voicemail stating my tax filings were expired and if I didn't call them within 24 hours I would be taken into custody "by the local cops" and "serious allegations are pressed on my name". The way the words are put doesn't even sound like an English speaking person and the message itself makes little sense.

Type of a scam Romance

I was sent a friend request on Facebook by Alexander Jimmy Smith. His email address is [email protected]  Later he started asking for money so he could go to school.  In 2014 I sent over $21,000 to him in Nigeria via Western Union.  Later he contacted me to apologize for scamming me.  He said he did need the money for school.

I think he is still scamming people, but under a different name.  Olorun Femi and Jimmy Young.

Type of a scam Debt Collections

Woman on the phone aggressively stated that a claim was being filed against me but wouldn't give me any detail about the claim. She stated I needed to call another phone number if I wanted more information about the claim. She stated, "I was going to give you a chance to get more information but now--." I interrupted her and told her she was rude. A debt collector would have information about the claim, and would inform you of the details.

Type of a scam Family/Friend Emergency

I excepted a friend request from andersonlewis6447 on instagram. He was friends with other people I know. Then I started to receive private msgs from him. He claims he's a sergeant in the army and they are stationed in Kabul Afghanistan. He first started asking for iTunes cards because he lost his credit card and then he needed money for something else and to send money order to some lady in Florida. First of all Army people don't need us to send them money. I did a search and can't find anything on him and a friend in the army did a search as well and nothing. Someone is using his photos to scam people. Since I didn't send them money they requested he said they will find me and ruin everything for me. I doknt know if he or they or whoever are trying to scare me to just send money or if their really going to find me.

Give your credit card number and $9,250.00 will be deposited into your account?? Called the number back to see why they asked for his credit card number. I could not understand him and asked for him to repeat. He started to scream at me and I told him to speak clearly so I could understand him. He hung up on me.

He now has my name.

Type of a scam Employment

I am currently a job seeker who has applied to several companies online. I received an email on 02/22/2018 from a Robert Keelean from Gusto Inc. requesting that i contact my interviewer Emily Simpson for an interview for a Data Entry/Customer service rep job i applied for on Zip Recruiter. I contacted the Emily Simpson via email ([email protected]) and she said i will be interviewed on Google hangout on 02/23/2018. We had said interview for almost 2 hours via Google hangout chat where i was asked several interview questions and finally was offered a job. She sent me an offer letter to sign and also requested for a copy of my ID card, utility bill and bank card account details for payroll registration which i submitted to her email. However, i started to feel uneasy when she said i will be sent a check the following Monday to purchase my home office equipment since i will be working from home. It sounded weird to me but i played along. Please note that i had checked this company Gusto Inc online and read their good reviews on Glassdoor and other websites so i was initially convinced they were real. Anyway, i received a JP Morgan Chase check of $2,950.66 via Fedex today 02/27/2018 and i felt i should investigate more since it was a huge sum. I called Gusto Inc customer service and asked them about the "recruiter" Emily Simpson and was informed there is no one with that name at the company and it is most likely a scam. I am a little worried now because they have a copy of my drivers license, home address details and bank card account details.(note these were submitted after i had received their job offer letter all on the Gusto letterhead paper).

They are obviously using the real Gusto Inc company to scam job seekers and i think people should beware of such scammers.

I received a robotic phone call telling me that I had 4 serious "validations" against me and that unless I called them back I would have the police at my door in 24 hours. The same robotic voice called again 2 minutes later saying that the previous call was about taxes and that I had to pay back taxes. I did not get the phone number to call.

Type of a scam Employment

The person contacted me by email advising me of a job offer as a data entry clerk working from home. I was advised to contact someone by the name Millicent Dominic via google hangouts at [email protected] for an interview. The woman asked me a series of normal interview questions but I had to ask twice for a company website address. The site seemed legit but still did not feel right. After answering the questions she offered me the job. Said I would get paid $24/hr and $20/hr in training. She also stated she would be sending me a check to pick up materials for the job from their selected provider. I stated to the woman it sounded too good to be true because I asked if I had to pay the company back for the materials and she said no. I was advised to contact her again 8am mon-friday for an update on job duties and to fill out my offer letter. I proceeded with contacting her the next morning at 8am and she sent me an offer letter with a different company name of World Wide Technology Inc. The letter also addressed someone else by the name Authur Yates. I explained the offer letter had sealed the deal for me and I was no longer interested. She begged to resend it only sending the same one again. She stated she didn't want the head of the company to find out about the mistake which threw up even more red flags. I stated once again I was not interested. She proceeded to tell me someone was going to call me and provide me with a code and I would need to give her the code to further verify myself. I advised her not to contact me anymore. The job seemed too good to be true and the messages were not as professional as they should have been. Grammar, spelling, and capitalization were mistakes I noticed in the emails. Luckily I did not give out any personal information in regards to my bank account.

Type of a scam Phishing

I was called on my desk phone at work by a number I didn't recognize. I answered the phone with my usual greeting: "Human Resources, this is __ speaking." A voice then came on the line immediately and said my name with a questioning tone. It sounded like someone clarifying that they got to the right person. I responded "yes this is" and the line immediately hung up. They were obviously recording my voice signature. Be aware of it.
