Type of a scam Rental

My fiancé and I were the victim of a rental scam. A man going by the name of Scott Ortiz contacted me via email on August 8, 2018. He claimed that him and his wife were the true owners of a property that I had been looking at in Richmond. (2513 Richdale Road) He said they had moved recently from VA to FL to follow his job (claimed that he was a doctor) and that they were handling the rental process on their own because they had been screwed over by the rental agency that they had hired to handle it for them. After 2 days of going back and forth, "getting to know each other", the Rental application was sent to us via email and we were to fill it out and return it via email and he would get back to us. The next day he sent me the "Approval Letter" and then later that day we read through and signed the "Rental Lease Agreement". We were then instructed to send our $700 Security Deposit via "refundable payment type" and the keys to the property would be overnight shipped via FedEx to a pick-up location, as my fiancé and I do not have currently have a permanent residence. The next day, the man said that his wife would not allow him to ship out the keys until we provided them with the prorated first months rent of $300. After some defiance, I caved and sent him the prorated amount. We were just so excited about finally finding a place after months of searching and staying in hotels that we let our better judgement get clouded. I was in constant contact with the man until 11:30am on the day that I was supposed to pick-up the keys. Come 1:30pm I was trying to get in contact with him in anyway possible, as I was supposed to pick-up the key at 4pm. I went to the FedEx pick-up location, against my better judgement, and contacted customer service. They did multiple searches and came back with no packages sent or received in my name anywhere in the United States. $1000 later, unfortunately, now we know better. This man did a very good job at making this deal seem legitimate and believable, however, that was not the case. I know that I will never see this money again, however, my hope is that this man is never able to scam anybody else. Go with your gut instinct. If it feels like a scam, it's a scam! RUN!

Posted ad on craigslist. Person responded with a different email address and sent photos of 4 different puppies. Claimed to only be getting rid of them because their mom was sick with cancer in the hospital and can no longer care for the mother plus the puppies. Person called me to fill out info to transfer owner ship of the dog, send certification papers and set up shipping.

I was suspicious and searched the text sent to me in the emails and found it on another website. 100% a scam.

Signed up for online survey group and was sent an official looking cashier's check for $2855.00. I looked up the bank and certified it was indeed in business. Did not deposit the check. Checked the BBB website and saw that there was a complaint on file with the exact same scenario. Thank goodness I checked.

today I received 5 calls from the above number. They were all missed calls but they did leave messages indicating this was about unpaid taxes.

No name or office identification was given.

I called the number back to see who it was and the response was 'call rejected'. I am assuming this is a scam as any tax organization would not be calling asking or giving information via phone. My 94 year old mother also received a number of these calls today and it had her quite upset.

Please do not consider into a contract with I trusted their services when I called and spoke to an attorney who guaranteed that the business would work on by filing older tax forms, they would work with the IRS to ensure that I would not be subject to levy's or liens but I have been in garnishment status well over a year although I sent their accounting department of $2,440 and have not received any services When I contacted the IRS I was told that did not do a thing for me and I was nearly in forclosure status. After several attempts in contacting someone from STOPIRS.debt come stafff, I let the phone ring and ring with no answer. I wanted to know what they were doing since hired them to provide a service to me. After they received all that I paid them they decided it was best to close out my case so therefore, I did not receive any receipts from them and when asked for a billing statement to show their charges for what they claim they did, I did not get anything from that either. I contacted the IRS to to get an update as to what was going on with my case and they said StopIRS.Debt. com did not do a thing. My taxes were in the process of going to collections and the lien I had against my wages was still on-going. Someone at StopIRSDebt. com indicated they were going to prepare my 2017 taxes and this was never done. I filed them on my own. The person at the IRS told me that he would put me on the forgiveness program if I got my 2017 taxes in. This is what I hired to do but I ended up taking care of everything on my own without their help. I am requesting a full refund since I have been scammed.

I was selling my computer because the money was going for personal reasons. This person contacts me and convinced me that he send me money through “PayPal” at first the tell me that they sent me the money and before they give it to me I needed to send the computer first. So I did, gave them proof and then they proceeded to tell me that they will give me the money when the buyer confirms that the item was there. After a week they sent me another email via “PayPal” telling me that my account reached limits and for them to make the deposit of the computer, the buyer needs to make another deposit of 580. And I needed to refund them. As I was waiting for the deposit, I noticed that on my PayPal there was no invoice. So I called them and they said that they never sent any emails to me about any deposits from their person. They asked me if I could read them the email and I did, the guy told me to not pay them any money, it was a scam. So I went back to the person and block them.

I recently moved to the greater Seattle Area, and have been looking for affordable apartments to rent in the area. One night I stumbled across something that I was certain was either not correct or a scam. I found a beautiful condo in Bellevue, WA for only $750 a month. Seattle is not known for having many apartments below the $1000 mark so surely there was a typo. However, out of curiosity I did reach out to the property owner in hopes to get more information about the price to make sure it was indeed incorrect. Bellevue is an expensive city to live in and here was an advertisement for a beautiful nearly 800sqft 1bedroom, 1bathroom apartment with a deck that ran the entire length of the apartment. Obviously it's too good to be true and I knew it, but I thought what did it hurt to at least contact and see what they say.

Shortly after I sent the email, the website I found the property took the property down. A few days later I received an email from the 'owner' of the property. She told me the property was indeed $750 with a refundable $750 security deposit. She'd been asked to move to Canada for her work and was looking for a responsible tenant to take care of her apartment. It would not be furnished, but she pointed out that internet, trash removal, and the other utilities were part of the rent and that pets were welcomed so long as the tenant cleaned up after them. Now I'm thinking this is still way too good to be true, but there are a lot of cases of subletting homes out here and I thought maybe it was possible that I was just paying toward the monthly mortgage of the home, so I emailed her back.

This is when things got really strange. She told me that she needed my name, current address, and phone number to set up an airbnb reservation. From where I would get an invoice from airbnb regarding the property (because she's out of the country) and has to handle it through the site, but that's when she said I would have to set up and pay for the property before ever getting a chance to see it. She said it was "formality, the site just needed to confirm my identity" and that if I decided I didn't like the apartment after viewing the $1500 would be immediately refunded to me.

I have never heard of a case where I am expected to pay for something before ever seeing it, especially not in home rentals. An agent goes in to show you the property and then if you like it you set up payment so obviously I was certain this was indeed a scam because she wanted me to fork out $1500 just to set up an inspection showing. To add to that, she pointed out that I could lease the apartment from 6months up to 10 years, but airbnb does short term leasing on a month to month basis up to 6months.

I checked out airbnb rental scams online and found several other instances where people received a very similar email requesting that the home owner was out of the country, they had to do the deal through airbnb, and that the interested renter needed to pay for the first month and the security deposit upfront before seeing the property.

robocall "there are 4 serious allegations filed against you" (funny it's always 4 serious allegations, never 2, 3 or 5) with threats that the local authorities are about to arrest you.

I did not answer the call, the partial message above was left on my "do not call" list cellphone's voicemail. Had I answered or called back, I'm sure that the scammers would have been telling me to send them untraceable funds to make the so called problem go away.

The company claims to sell Yeti products. They mimic the actual Yeti site. Purchased 2 tumblers on Friday on Sunday I realized what had happened so I emailed them asking to cancel order and refund monies. I received an email the next day say no they won't be refunding me that the products went out and a link to a tracking number. The link took me to a site that was in Chinese not 1 thing on that site had my address on it. I emailed them 3 more times and haven't heard back from them.

I recently put up an ad on Craigslist and two days later was contacted by the scammer. He was interested in my car but wanted me to go to a sketchy website to pay for a car report. I looked up car report scams and started reading a bit that it’s happening to others. After I told the person that they could pay for the car fax themselves or take my car to bell tire to get inspected, I received no response. I guess they want me to buy a car fax on their fake website so they can steal my credit card info.

An automated line called my work cell phone and stated that I was being sued and a law suit was being issued for tax fraud. And in order to stop this process or get information on the law suit i would have to call 607-286-1090

This number has called my home phone and cell phone both a recording that states there are allegations under custody by local police...The grammar of the recording doesn't make sense. It asked to call the number to discuss about the case before legal action against you. The number is 217-883-4239. When I called the number back an "officer smith" answered and hung up as soon as I started asking questions.

I can see how this would make people nervous and who knows what they are up to.

Thanks for your help!

A user with the profile name of David Jules posted a payroll assistant job in the Classifieds on Facebook. I messaged him about the position. He said it would be to print off payroll checks and mail them out for 1goal education for all. This would be a work from home position running payroll on Monday and Thursday printing off 30-50 checks per week. The pay would be 550 biweekly via walmart2walmart. By this time the user already had my name, email, phone and address. The kick was I needed to order the check and envelopes from the site of my choice. About this time, he texted me and said his facebook wasnt allowing to send anymore messages. I started looking for his profile and it was no longer on FB. I have changed my passwords with email and Facebook, but not sure what else to do. When I go back in the Messenger, his responses to my questions are no longer present.
