An automated woman's voice informed me the IRS was trying to get in contact with me because the IRS is "filing lawsuit against me" and to get more info about the "case file" I should call this number 802-431-7918. I knew instantly it was a scam but out of morbid curiosity I called the number and a man with an obvious Indian accent answered who was calling from (judging from the background noise) a busy call bank. I informed him I was reporting him and if he didn't stop calling (this was the 6th call from this number in 2 days) I was personally going to hunt him down. He just said "ok mam" and I hung up. This number or some variation has repeatedly called our house for weeks now with different scams (free cruse vacation was the last one). It's clear they're targeting the elderly relative who lives in this house with me as we've had a proliferation of seniors being scammed in the area lately. I find it extra disturbing they are claiming to be IRS officials now.

Type of a scam Tax Collection

At 9:58 am CDT on Wed 4/6 the # 913-547-6907 left a message that I was delinquent on my taxes and the IRS was going to come and arrest me if I didn't pay $5900. I called the # back at 10:17 am CDT and talked to a very rude and unprofessional Indian woman. She kept talking about different amounts that I owed, referencing an address I haven't lived at since 1994 and that I had made an error on taxes from 2009-2014 that I owed on. Before I realized it was a scam, I did give her my current address. She didn't ask for my social security number thank goodness. She hung up on me when I started questioning things, and when I called back it just rang and rang. The number called me again at 5:36 pm CDT and left another message. I haven't heard from them since. This is an awful scam! They know how to get people's attention because obviously people are going to be scared when they hear it's the IRS! I thought about it during the call fortunately, and realized that the IRS only contacts people through snail mail and started questioning things, but not everyone would be able to think clearly enough to figure that out, so they may send these awful people $! I would like to try to save people from getting scammed so I hope I have given you enough info that you can get these guys!

Type of a scam Rental

https://myrtlebeach.craigslist.org/apa/5520254159.html The phone number on this page directs you to a line in which a young man picks up the phone and tries to get you to pay $199 for access to a real estate website and gets your email to send you a confirmation. And when I asked why I would pay for access to the site to see the listing when I've already found the house I want, he hangs up on me. So I called back and told him that I was reporting him, and he proceeded to chuckle quietly and said "okay, call back in an hour" and hung up. But the first voice recording you hear is of a a female saying "your call is important to us, etc.." The number is 803-814-6381

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I received an email from a company called Cara Operations LTD and said that they had received my resume from my Career Development center at my school and they contacted me through my student email. They had asked for my name and address. I looked up the company and it was a real company. Also since it came through school it seemed legit so I sent them that information. They emailed me back with some information about what I would be doing in the job. For the last week and a half they emailed me about my first assignment and how they were going to send me a check in the mail. I was then to deposit that check into my bank account. The next day I was to take out the money that they told me to and send it in cash via MoneyGram. I was also to take out 10% commission and $100 from that check and the rest was sent to a staff member. I did as they told me to and the next day I got to talking to some friends and family and I looked more into this and found out that this has happened before and it was a scam. So I emailed that company back and told them that I will no longer participate in the job position any more. Later I received an email from my bank, because I get notifications if my account is below a certain amount, and I find out that my checking and savings accounts have been emptied. Have already contacted my bank and told them what happened and they are trying to get my money back. I am also in contact with MoneyGram International to let them know about the scam that is going on so they are aware of it. I have also filed a complaint with the FTC.

I posted an ad on Craigslist about my business on cleaning houses, this person e-mailed saying he needed a house cleaner well long story short I got excited about the job offer and then he said he was express mailing me my first weeks pay along with the pay to pay the painter who is painter their apartment so the total of the check $1950, I was to go to my bank take my pay 450 and then Western Union the $1500 to the painter. He would never tell me where or whom to send the $1500 too. He made it sound promising; he has a wife named Rene and two son's Josh and Rick and a baby on the way. He would never tell me his address nor who the painter was. He went by the name Williams Thomas and each time I would ask who and where I send the remainder of the money $1500 he would always respond to deposit it in my bank account and wait for further instructions.

First "mark" left a voicemail a day or two ago saying I had an appointment for backyard landscaping for today and he was confirming. Thinking it was just a wrong number, I just ignored it. He called back today and was very aggressive about the appointment, even saying he had voicemail and email confirmation. He knew my name and town. I asserted there was no appointment and hung up.
