Type of a scam Phishing

This number called me and a very 'nice' lady asked me if I could hear here. I said "I can" and the she hung up. I tried calling back and no answer. My husband called from his phone and a recording came up asking him to push 2 to be put on the do not call list. He didn't push anything then it referred him to an email address customerservicenow[email protected]

I think this is the scam where they try to get you to say yes and then use that against you. I'm now going to start life lock on my credit and have my phone number changed and have all of my card #s changed. So frustrated over this.

This guy has at least 10 different profiles on FB with various names, all include McGhee. Mchghee Michael, McGhee Scott, etc. all using the same photos. He befriends women, claims to be on deployment in Africa & asks for money. I have reported all the profiles to FB but the response I received was that I must just block him if I don't like his content.

I am trying to sell a truck though Craigslist in Salem, MA. Daniel's daughter, Maria first contacted me requesting my email address. Daniel emailed me and said he was interested in buying the truck (he has never seen it) but wants me to purchase a VIN report through vehiclereportvin.com. I googled this to see if it is legit and I could not find anything on it. I read your article, "Selling a Car? Watch out for Fake Buyer Trying to Trick you into Buying Questionable Vehicle History Report" and thought you would want to be aware of this. Thank you for the article - it saved me a lot of time and money.

On March 26, 2017, at 1:03 pm., I received a call from 973-755-2831, a recorded call asking me if I could hear her to make me say "YES". This call is a Scam to get me to say "yes".

My phone number is 609-937-2177.

It was the "can you hear me?" scam, to which I unfortunately answered "yes" because I recognized the prefix of the cell phone number as 209, which is one that most of my family, friends and co-workers have. This person called herself Emily and apologized, stating her headset wasn't working properly. She then started to explain she was calling because I'd recently shown interest in one of their vacation destinations. I then hung up. Interestingly, my husband was walking by as this happened and I told him about it; lo and behold, the previous day he had received the same call from "Emily" but the prefix of the number calling was 429, which is the same prefix as his own phone number. That number was 402-429-4942. We have now agreed not to answer any phone calls who we are not absolutely sure of who they are but wanted to add our situation to the list of those who've experienced this in the hopes something can be done to stop this very frustrating and concerning scam!

Hi:

I had written to *** in April and October, 2016 about a number of suspicious phone calls I had been receiving, from numerous locations and phone numbers, in which there is usually a person on the other end, but often through some sort of voice modifier so that it's not fully the sound of a human voice. Often the same people are calling, from various numbers and alleged locations. They will introduce themselves by first name, and say a vague company name, but have no information to give if I ask them where they got my number. Once I start asking any other questions, or decline to give information (such as my car insurance company, in one phone call last week), they immediately hang up. I've asked numerous times to be put on their "do not call lists," and have followed automated systems to do so when a call is made by an automated voice system, but this has not helped. The "companies" have ranged from car insurance or protections to solar panels.

When I wrote to *** with these numbers in April and October, the calls seemed to stop or decrease significantly for several months, so I'm not positive if anything was done that caused this decrease, since I hadn't gotten answers to the e-mails. Now they've been starting again to a great degree, especially over the past several weeks. I've been receiving as many as half a dozen a week, and sometimes 3 in one day. Here is a list of some of the recent calls (most recent first):

(603) 637-1827, Bedford, NH, Wednesday 3/22 1:17 pm

(603) 637-1827, Bedford, NH,Tuesday, 3/21 1:52 pm

(559) 425-8840, Orange Grove, CA, Friday 3/17 1:30 pm

(669) 248-8613, Sunnyvale, CA, Thursday 3/16, 4:20 pm

(903) 213-1064, Caddo Mills, TX, Wednesday 3/15, 12:59 pm

(619) 505-0542, National City, CA, Wednesday 3/15, 11:47 am

No Caller ID, Wednesday 3/15, 10:09

(323) 406-6238, Los Angeles, CA, Monday, 3/13, 1:49

Hopefully you're able to look into these, since the nature and frequency of the calls seems so suspicious, with the same people often calling from differing locations, fake or ineffective "do not call" lists, the "voice over" sound features, vague company names, and the complete lack of any information about the supposed company or how they got my number.

Any advice or insight would be appreciated as well! Thank you for your help. *** *** ***

Caller represented self as calling from Ky Dept of Health and Human Services. We screen calls but answered because saw 44 as part of nbr which was perceived as being from Britain. If I had not been busy I would have realized it was Saturday and known immediately that it was a robo call as it was clear from the noise in the caller's room that there were many callers. The caller asked to speak to my husband and when I said, "This doesn't sound right." the caller asked if I was at (my street address and city). I replied, "yes." He then asked if my husband's birthday was *** *, *** and I replied, "No." He then asked, what is his birthdate and I replied, I don't think I'm going to tell you that and hung up.

Identified himself as being from a polling company, asked if I would participate in his poll. I said "OK". He then asked me if I could hear him and I said "Yes," upon which he immediately disconnected. I believe this is one of the "yes scam" scammers.

Visited Classmates.com via weekly notifications eMail sent to my IN BOX. Once there. a. window appeared and took over saying won Sunday's $1000.00 gift card. Followed by using National Consumers Network to ask some Consumer questions. Several types of questionnaires. Seemed up and up... It mentioned ATT and Direct TV... But towards end, the questions didn't allow. Skip. Made impossible to move forward without giving personal information other than a mail to address for the gift card. I did give a PO box address at the beginning of the 3 questions questionnaire to qualify.. Also had reviews from classmates in support of its legitimacy at the beginning....

Hello,

I received a call on Saturday, 3/25/2017, at 11:09AM, from Newton, MA. I am from Boston and have a lot of relatives living in Newton so I picked up the call. Someone asked "Can you hear me?" I said yes, and then the female on the phone went into talking about cruise lines. I hung up immediately. I am nervous now because they have me saying yes on the recording and I have read news reports that they can charge bills on my credit card and phone, etc.

I received a phone call from someone who said hello immediately after I said hello. I said "yes", and the woman on the phone told me she had a problem with her headset. She proceeded to tell me that I won a free trip as a result of recently staying at a resort, which I have not done. I told her I was not interested and disconnected.

Received call on cell phone saying that they had been trying to get in touch with me and that he was family and to guess who was on the line. I asked if it was my cousin Gerardo and he said yes. Said that he was going to fly in and was ready to take off and would call me when he landed at 530p. Received call at 640p advising that he had landed and was going to pickup luggage and immigration and would call me back after he was done. He called back in about 15 mins and told me that he had runned into some trouble because he had some cash he did not declare and they were asking him to give a 10 percent cash payment to release his money, he asked me if I could lend him some money, but I told him that I do not keep cash in the house and banks were closed and all I have is credit cards. He said he would check with the people holding his money and would call me back. He called me back in about 10 mins and told me that he needed about 600 hundred dollars and if I lend him that much and that they would take a credit card and handed phone to a Lic. Marques had advised me that if I could go to Barry's Financial at 1814 Southwest WW White Rd, San Antonio Tx 78220 and let the person know that I wanted a envio en minutos in Lazaro Cardenas Michocan in Mexico and to put to attention Amairani Arreola Manzo to e charge to Tienda Electa or Banco Azteca for the amount of $1,750, also said that I would get a confirmation and that he needed that to release money back to Gerardo and would call me back. Got a call back within 10 mins from Gerardo advising if I had left to make to money exchange and I told not yet since it was on the other side of town and would take me a while to get there. Spoke with my husband letting him know that I thought this was a scam and he suggested to let him know that my husband had a friend in immigration at the airport that could help him out. Gerardo called me back in about 10 mins and asked if I was already at the place making money deposit, when I told him what my husband had suggested caller hung up and did not call back.
