I have a similar complaint as others already listed. I was charged $130.00 to hook up my Roku account and was obviously scammed. Trying to get any resolution is futile. Just plain robbery!

I also have been scammed by HERNIT, LLC through ROKU. When I was setting up my ROKU for the first time, I got a message on the screen saying to continue setting up ROKU call a number. they charged me $140. I found out the next day you should not pay anything more than purchasing the ROKU package. I immediately tried to call the 24/7 phone number they gave me to use for technical support and there was no answer no matter how many times I tried. I have gotten ahold of a young man who I think has been trying to help me get my money returned as I'm unsatisfied, but the check they are suppose to send me has never arrived even though I've been told many times I'd have it in a week. Very unhappy with this. Sorry I didn't see the post about other ROKU people getting this scam. I am now awaiting for this young man to check into it again. Normally I hear from him quite fast, but it has been close to 24 hours and he has not come back with why my check still hasn't been sent. I'm quite sure they are figuring if they ignore me, I'll go away.

I got scammed by the HERN IT LLC. The Man told me I had to activate my account by paying 100 dollars. It was fustrating because the Man was just telling me to pay the Money and I won't have to pay anything for a lifetime. I then read the paper that came with the TV and it said I didn't have to pay anything in order to activate the TV. I told the Man that in the paper it said I didn't have to pay in order to activate the TV. So I told him to give me my Money back but he insisted and told me I had to pay to activate the TV. I told him to cancel the payment which he said he would do and told him to return my Money back. He said he would return my 100 dollars but he never did. So I tried to call him back and wouldn't answer. I sent an email to the company but they still havn't responded.

Scammer said I had to pay one time fee for the to be activated

Was scammed by 3rd party website for support to connect Roku streaming device.

I bought a TCL Roku Television on February 27. While setting it up, I couldn't get the Roku to activate. Being a customer of Roku boxes for 10- 15 years I was well acquainted with setting up the aftermarket boxes. This was my first time with a built-in television unit. A pop-up box came on offering a phone call or chat to activate it. I called it and talked to what I assumed was a Roku representative. She culled too much personal information to supposedly verify my account. Ultimately she then after taking a moment on hold offered me two package deals to register all my Rokus, one a $79.99, which I took. The other for $249. This burst my bubble in saving a lot on my t.v. only to have this charge eat into my purchase price. After I got it to activate which I found was only with me doing it through my computer, I had a gnawing feeling something wasn't right. I did a search and found out this is a prevalent scam that is unknown nor endorsed by Roku. I contacted the FTC and my bank which canceled my debit card. I then noticed today that my bank on Friday allowed the charges to go through per approval of Shazam stating since I gave out information I accepted their terms. Victimized twice!!

My husband and I got scammed through a Roku device from a company called Hern IT LLC. When I tried to activate a newly purchased Roku Ultra, upgrading from an older Roku, the Roku displayed a number to call (855-302-7111) to get the device activated. The scammers charged us $80 to activate the device. The scammer said that this was a new "one-time" process that was necessary to activate the device and that we wouldn't have to ever pay again to have it reactivated. Once I gave them my credit card number, the device activated right away.

Does anyone know how this scammer is doing this? How are they able to display a phone number on initial setup of a device and then get that to go away once we paid them.

When I realized I got scammed, I called my credit card company, explained the situation and they initiated a dispute report. I was informed that I would be credited the $80.

Roku activation fee, set up Roku account and got an error when entering in the access code. a number popped up on the Roku stating to call IT then a foreign Indian person answered the call ( i should have known) asking for the access code and saying the code was good and they needed $100 activation fee a one time fee for the Roku to work. I had many things going on at that time and just gave the information over like a dummy. I should have known better. Then right after i paid i realized i did a very stupid thing. I contacted my credit card company and cancelled my card for a new replacement, i am also disputing the charges with my VISA card in hopes to get the money back. Dont fall for it, Roku is free and the setup is free, no fees to pay at all!!!

I was having difficulty with my Roku TV device and was trying to reset it when I received a code I was to enter via internet site (?). When I entered the code, it was rejected and I was advised via message on TV to call a support number. I was greeted by a foreign sounding man and then transferred to another number to another foreign sounding man. He informed me that my Roku device was outdated and the account frozen but he could update everything and it cost a one time fee of $100. Being severely electronically challenged, I followed all his instructions of which he seemed very knowledgeable and charged the fee for HERN it LLC to my credit card. My Roku did a few things and then it was fine. A few hours later, something didn't sit right with me and I got online to see if there were any updates from Roku that had been described by the man on the phone and, of course there was not. I also looked up scams perpetrated by other under tech service for Roku and found almost the same situation I had just been in. Roku does not charge for tech support and update which are done almost daily. I found this out after I paid the fee.

I was attempting to activate a new Roku device on my television on August 19, 2019. I used the Google search engine on my cell phone to locate the web site. I thought I had the authentic Roku site. I use the chat feature but I was disconnected so I called the telephone number listed. I told them that I was having a problem activating the Roku. I was told by the customer service representative that only one Roku is allowed per the email address and that an additional Roku would cost $100 to activate. She explained that this was a new policy.

When I mentioned this transaction to my daughter, she said that the transaction sounded bogus. I look up the company on the Better Business Web site and found several claims made by individuals who had been duped by this company with regards to Roku activation. I contacted the Roku organization on August 23, 2019. The customer service representative told me that the web site I use was a scam and that Roku does not charge for activation of its devices.

I was transfer to a Technician from Roku and he reset my Roku account because Hern IT LLC had established a new G-mail address by using my personal information and used it to activate my Roku.

I have cancelled my credit card that I used to make this transaction and I am writing to the Hern company to request a refund.
