I just received a text message regarding a mystery shopper position at Walmart.

Walmart is starting an exceptionally huge research project in your general vicinity. This project happens each week, so we need to chooaase Shoppers to work as a store evaluator. You will get $400 on each endeavor. Every task requires 20-30 minutes of time at the store in addition to time to review your post-visit reports. I have also received a text after receiving a letter and check in the amount of $1000.00 and received the mail with the letter inside. However, slightly different than the others were the phone# 720-295-9146, & an email to send photos of gift cards to [email protected], amounts of what cards to buy and signature on the check (which of course you cannot read). All of my correspondence from Resident Research is "signed" by a Michael Chamberlain The logo on the check is the same logo as another company that I have contacted in regard to Resident Research and the use of their logo. I will not return the check or letter. I am going to contact USPS fraud unit and try to contact a fraud unit through VBI /FBI and perhaps we can stop these people in their tracks.

I received a package in the mail with a letter and a check of $1835.00 the letter states for me to buy ebay cards. I have to deposit the check first and call them.

The scammer contacted me via text message on a group chat and I thought it was real. I got a check about to three weeks later with a cashiers check and only realized how suspicious this looked. I asked the scammer and they swore it wasn’t fake.

I received a check in the mail for $2455 asking me to purchase $2000 in gift cards. $1000 in Walmart gift cards and $1000 in Ebay gift cards. Attched you will find the instructions as to what I was asked to do. What happens next is I receive another check and I am hesitant to deposit it, just seems to good to be true. I go to a website to verify the funds, the funds are in the account. Carols harasses me into depositing the check. Then I am hesitant to get the gift cards. Carlos then threatens me with a criminal record, being arrested and having a bad credit history. I then tell him I will pay the money back. I pay the money back and the next day the check was returned. I contact Carlos and he was surprised as he had sworn on his life and his family's life that there checks were good. He asked to see a copy of my bank account showing the returned check and I showed him and he said he would have the funds reversed and needed to do some documentation and the money would be reversed back into my account. Now Carlos ignores me. I call and leave him messages, I text him and he ignores me. I have contacted my bank and they are looking into fraud.

I received a 1590.00 check that had been sent overnight mail. I was to deposit in my account, keep 300.00 and use the balance to purchase walmart gift cards. I was to evaluate the customer service of walmart employees so I couldn't tell anyone. I had to send a snap of the gift cards.

I received a letter with Walmart's logo at the top accompanied by a check for $1,590.00. It says I was selected to participate in their "secret shopper program". I was to deposit the cashier's check into my bank account and after 24 hours the funds would be available. It goes on to say that I should purchase personal items not spending more than $90. Then I am to purchase gift cards from the same store I shop in, three cards each at $400. leaving $300 for compensation to me for my services. To confirm my participation, I am to text them that I received the letter and that I have deposited the check (I am guessing this is how they get cell phone numbers, but I did not text them and I have not received any texts).

The want me to scratch off the codes from the back of the gift cards and send them a picture of the scratched codes along with my notes from my shopping experience. It even goes into detail about how I am not to use the Money-Mart services kiosk inside the store because they have been reported for slow service, missing funds and charging customers for services not rendered.

There is a paragraph that instructs me as to what I am supposed to be looking for as I shop, i.e. friendliness of cashier, cleanliness of store, etc.

The letter warns me to not tell anyone that I am a secret shopper and that I must complete the entire process within two days after receiving the letter. It also says that I must have the cashier activate the three gift cards at the time of purchase. And lastly, it warns that I must fully cooperate by following the instructions to the tee, and that I must send the results and pictures via text to the number given.

My take on the letter - it is written poorly, almost as if English is not the language of the author. There are several spelling and grammar errors as well. It is obviously a photo copy because it is very light print with some parts almost illegible.

It is signed Sincerely, Task Manager Mr. Robert Hutcherson followed by a logo for Resident Research, Inc Consumer Satisfaction Survey

I received a text message stating that I had been selected for next week for a Walmart survey. Survey package will be scheduled to deliver to my mailbox by USPS within next week. acknowledge that you received the message and your readiness to start your survey. Mr. Robert Hutcherson (Resident Research, Inc.) I received another text that survey payment would arrive and it contains a check which will cover allowance for evaluation service worth 300. I then got a envelope that contained a letter with a Walmart header. Also a fake looking cashiers check in the amount of 1570.00 on Peoples First Federal credit union. The letter tells me to deposit it into my bank account. It states $300 is compensation for my participation in this consumer evaluation. It then tells me to purchase several items for personal use not more than $70. Tells me to purchase Walmart gift card worth $1200. Denominations of $400,$400, and $400. At the back of the card scrathe and sent the picture of scratched pages. Send pictures of your Walmart receipt and the Picture of scratch page on Walmart gift card via text message to 650 516 7230 . Do not make cashier aware you are doing a evaluations. Instruct cashier to activate Walmart gift card.

This morning I received a text message from telephone number 734-315-0145 saying that I have been selected to participate in a secret shopper survey for which I would be paid $300. As I’ve been a part of legitimate survey is for which I have received small sums of money I answered yes to the email and when I got home there was an overnight priority mail envelope waiting for me. The person from whom it was sent was named Carol router or UHT ER coming from Barrington Illinois. When I opened it there was a letter inside using Walmart letterhead telling me that I was to go and I noticed the check had no water mark which was of concern and so I googled this purchased several things using no more than $90 from Walmart and to take in the cleanliness of the store the way that the people treated me how friendly the cashiers were and then later on to go back and buy several gift cards totaling $1200 in denominations of 400 apiece and then I was to take pictures of the numbers on the back of the cards and send them to the email and telephone number selected. Also in the envelope with the check for $1590 made out to me. The check was sent through something called MPower federal credit union I noticed the check had no watermark which was of concern and so I googled this company and found that they have been Sending out fraudulent checks and that people were cashing them and then suddenly your bank would find out that it was a fake check and you would be stuck paying back the money in the meantime the person to whom you texted the numbers on the back of the cards was realizing the gains by keeping the gift card amounts for themselves. Thankfully I didn’t spend any of this money and this is literally five minutes after I opened the envelope but please be very careful

I signed up on line to take surveys, received a check in the mail for 1,390.20.. Was told to deposit check in my account then go to wal mart and spend $40 on personal purchases for myself, then buy 3 gift cards for $350, take photo copy of them and fax/mail them in. Do a survey of there service and speed etc of the store. The check was mailed priority mail to me and I was to confirm that I received it, i did not and I still get text messages about it. I looked it up on line a saw it was fraudulent.

- Huntley, IL, USA

I received a letter to be a secret shopper for Walmart along with a check for $1690.00. I was instructed to purchase three $450 gift cards, scratch the code and text photo of it to [email protected]/702-570-3856 and I would be able to keep the $300 balance (which if they could do math would be $340). I did none of this and reported to the USPS Fraud Dept. By the way, the check was made out to the person that allegedly sent the letter and check to me. She happens to be a 72 year old woman in Texas and her address label was over another address label, but I was unable to remove it without destroying the one underneath. The grammar was atrocious.
