He invites me to take a look in his trunk where he's got the back full of projectors, sound bars, and projector screens. I tell him unfortunately I'm only looking for short-throw projectors since we live in a small space and he proceeds to pull out one of the units from its box and describe all its features, which ticks nearly every box (short-throw, compatible with gaming consoles, 4k UHD, indoor and outdoor, etc.). The projector box indicates it's an E-Vision 4000 model. He says it's a commercial unit that normally retails for $5000 but he can sell it to me for $400-500. I offer him $300 and he accepts and suggests there's an ATM inside the gas station where I can get the cash. He also says if I can pull out a little extra cash he'll throw in the soundbar. I decline the soundbar.
He parks next to my vehicle and waits in his car while I go get cash. When I emerge, he pulls out a projector box and screen and begins handing it to me. He also provides a dummy invoice, mentions that I can obtain the 3 year warranty from the manufacturer with this invoice, and I sign the invoice and keep a yellow copy.
We have a friendly conversation for at least another 5 minutes about video games, racing, movies, and he also tells a detailed story of another "past client" of his in Paradise Valley (with a "15 million dollar home") where he installed a $400k home theater system, as well as telling an elaborate backstory for how this rich client obtained his mass fortune and retired early.
I load the boxes into my car, hand him the cash, and ask for a business card. He says he doesn't have a business card but he writes his name and a phone number on my copy of the invoice. He says he first approached me because he "liked my style." We shake hands, say farewells, and I drive away.
He said his name was Jake and he had a dark chin beard, and wore a cap.
