On September 5, 2022 at 8:06PM, I posted a question on Reddit asking around for two General Admission Floor Tickets for the Gorillaz concert in San Francisco on September 21. Brian Stewart, or user PubliclyCry221 on Reddit, DMs me and asks me if I am still in search of the tickets, to which I said “yes i am! do you specifically have two floor ga tickets for gorillaz on 9/21?”. He says yes and asks me for my offer on both tickets. I reply “ i was hoping to buy both for possibly 120-150 each (240-300 as total price). i’d like to hear your offer as well”. Brian (PubliclyCry221) agrees with the $300 final total and asks “Do you have a PayPal account?” I reply to him with “ yes i do! i prefer to pay through paypal anyways. before i pay you, do you have proof that you purchased the tickets? preferably an email confirmation”. He then tells me “ I'll just upload them for free on Eventbrite for you to get then you pay me through PayPal family and friends once you get the tickets...” When I didn’t respond for a while, he asks me “Are you there?” to which I reply “yes i’m still here, was just contemplating. if you don’t mind me asking, is there another way to pay for the tickets besides through family and friends on paypal? are you able to request money from me instead?” He insists that he doesn’t know how to request money from me by saying “ I don't know how to request and since you'll be getting the tickets first you have absolutely nothing to fear” and proceeds to ask me “Or do you have Zelle?” Since I already felt sketchy about the procedure, he reassured me by saying “Eventbrite verified the tickets and sent me a link already”. For context, Eventbrite is a platform for selling tickets online. I ask Brian again “do you have any picture proof? if they sent you a link, can you take a screenshot or something?” and quickly reassured him again by saying, “ if it makes you feel safe, you can blur out some letters or something? i’m just sketched out since i’ve been screwed over on and off a bunch and i want these tickets”. He ignores my request and says, “Okay”, and sends me a link to register for the Gorillaz tickets (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gorillaz-tickets-414464072197). He then tells me, “Get the tickets and let me know once you have them.” I register for the tickets for free and tell him that I have done so. He tells me, “ I'll send you my Paypal account now and you send payment using family and friends...” and shortly follows up with “ Please send me a screenshot once payment is sent”. I search up his email on PayPal and before I paid him I asked him “ of course! quick question, (and i ask this for everyone i purchase from that i dont know) do you mind if i send as a goods and service type instead? we can also add each other on our personal facebook accounts just to prove each other that we are real people and we can unfriend each other once the event has passed”. He rejects the idea of that and says “ Family and friends only please” following up with the next few messages: “ It will take me a month to access my funds if you use goods”, “ That's why I sent you the tickets first”, and “ Eventbrite won't have sent you a ticket without proper verifications”. I believed him and tried to send the payment, but it has declined. I asked him, “did you receive the payment?” Instead of answering yes or no, he asks, “Send me a screenshot please”, to which I comply and sent him a screenshot of my denied payment and asked “ it wasn’t able to send. do you have a different email instead? or we could use zelle if that works”. He says “ Let me use my friends Zelle” with a followed up, “ Give me a second”. It takes him at least 5-10 minutes to reply before he gives me the number and name “ +1 914-564-6309 Brian Stewart”. As I’m setting up my payment I double check with him to make sure that the name and number he is enrolled with on Zelle is correct. He says “Yes” and follows up with another desperate plea, “Please send screenshot once sent”. I send him the money and take a screenshot of the proof before sending it to him. He says “Okay, I'll let you know once confirmed”. A few minutes later, he asks me, “ Please what's your full name on Zelle?” I tell him my full name and number and replies with “Okay Thanks”. At 4:17AM, September 6, 2022, the official Eventbrite organization sends me an email that states:
