Soft Tech Solutions Reports & Reviews (2)

- Memphis, TN, USA

I was on my computer (about a month ago) and an 800 phone number showed up to call a service tech to perform repairs on my computer.

I told them I had two laptops and one PC and they stated they could repair them all at one time. They stated it would cost $798.41 and asked for my checking acct. number; they took out the money electronically. Later, I realized I already had a contract with the Geek Squad thru Best Buy so I tried to put a stop pmt on it but it was too late. The Geek Squad performed the necessary repairs on the computer for $50. I reported

the phone number to the FTC.

It looks like this is an ongoing criminal enterprise. After reviewing the previous reports under this title it sounds very similar to what I experienced. I have had numerous calls from someone saying they are from Windows warning me that my computer is infected and I need to get in front of my computer and enter what they tell me to. They do not speak good English. They are very insistent that they are from Windows and attempt to convince you by taking you through several steps on your computer showing you how many times your system has been compromised before transferring you to their "technician" to resolve the problem. I was fairly impressed by the initial front man, but when he attempted to connect me with the technition I had to pull the power on my computer to shut it down before they gained access. It is obvious from the background noise that the sales pitch is coming from a boiler room call center. The first call supposidly came from "Michigan", the second from "Wilington, DE" and identified themselves as being with SOFT TECH SOLUTIONS. after persistent questioning I was given the phone number of 1-888-844-3895 which will take you back to the "technition". With continual questing, they will even pass you off to others who are pretty good with the English language. I checked with a softwear tech in our area and was advised that the criminal attempt is to get their program into your system and take control, requiring fees to be paid to release it. To correct the problem usually requires a reprable technition to completely takedown and reinstall your system.
