Nevertheless, on March 18 2021 we signed the contract and paid with check $**** for cost of the awning sign ( $****) and for "acquisition of the city sign permit" ( $****). Prior to signing of the contract or at the time of signing we were never asked for or requested to provide any information that may be necessary for the city sign permit application. We assumed that George and Sign Studio USA company had all information they needed.
The awning was installed on April 1st without any attempt to inform us that sign is being installed or any attempt to have us look at the sign and approve it's look or height at which we wanted it.
On April 9th I sent an email to Sign Studio USA requesting the copy of the city sign permit and copy of the receipts for the fees paid to the city for my financial and legal documentation. I assumed that permit was obtained, application filed and that fees were paid since the awning sign went up on April 1st 2021. Just to remind everyone - it is illegal to put a sign up without the permit.
SIGN studio USA responded to my email sending me completely blank application for the city sign permit requesting only then essential information for the application process such as our FEIN number, business registration number etc as well as signature of the landlord. At that point I concluded that this company never started and never intended to start application and obtain the mandatory permit. Because if they had the intention- they would have asked that information between 3/18/21 and 4/9/21.
I firmly believe that this company intended to never aquire, file, obtain or pay the fees necessary for the city sign permit. They intended to pocket or rather illegally steal my $****. I also believe that IRS audit of this company would for sure be very, very interesting.
I also have reason to believe that I am not the only victim of this company's fraudulent and illegal practices and that there are many small business owners who worked with this company that have been scammed out of their money as well as put in a situation where they can have considerable problems with the city without even being aware that the permit they paid to be obtained never even was filed for. Mr George has made a statement that in 30 years he has been in business, he only had one case where there was city inspection.
He also asked me at the time of drawing the contract - "So, you want to do this the right way?" - meaning - LEGALLY. I have all the short hand notes taken during the meetings with George, as well as contract and all the emails exchanged.
To make long story short, after George and his company started being rude to me, I requested a full refund of $**** dollars, immediate stop to any city sign application in my name and I requested that the illegally installed awning be taken down. George issued the refund in form of cashier's check and said that he needs written consent from my landlord to take the awning down. I have a text from landlord in which he states that he will give written consent.
The awning sign is still up and by the way, the black ink from the name and logo is dripping and leaking on the red canvas. We already have another sign company that we are working with and they are aware of the only requirement from the landlord which is to have bolts of the new sign be put in the existing holes that George made to which they responded confirming that that would not be a problem.
I have repeatedly asked landlord if he gave written consent to George to take the illegally installed sign down to which he responded that he hasn't heard from Geoege. Last time he made that statement was Friday, 04/23/21 at around 5 pm.
On that same day at 9 pm he called my husband to tell him that he - the landlord, bought the awning from George and that he owns it now, that he will file for the city permit in our name and that we will have to pay him $**** . He never consulted me or my husband regarding this idea or development.
At this point, I request full investigation in the business practices of the Sign Studio USA company as well as audit of all of their financial books and IRS filings. They are thieves and liars and pray on the ordinary people who put their trust in them because it is utterly impossible to know all the nuances of city permits for this and that. They say they will do it, take the money and I assume hope that nobody is going to ask any questions.
