Microsoft Security Reports & Reviews (7)

I had a security alert on my computer pop up and gave me a number to call and I did and I the person gave me and he wanted 199 dollars to fixed my network I called my Internet company and they said that there is nothing wrong

I was called on 5/1/2020 by a person with a heavy accent from 8632250754 by a person claiming to be from Microsoft support. He was asking for 299.00 to renew my security. When I told him I didn't have UT he hung up on me.

- Cleveland, OH, USA

I received a voicemail claiming that they were calling from Microsoft Security and a department of theirs that handles monitering computers is going out of business and I was entitled to a refund. They left me with a phone number to call back, but when I called I didn't get anyone, just heard talking in the background. It sounded like I called a residence and it seemed funny so I won't be calling again.

recording states that I can not use my microsoft products, I must call microsoft security team at toll free 866 228 3076, but call was from number 855 849 1201. Today at 1:20 pm

- Franklin, IN, USA

I received 7 phone calls and robo voice calls stating they were from MS security and my computer was most likely infected according to the feedback they received from my site license. I knew this was a scam and I called them back and told them to stop calling me and filling up my voice mail. They were polite and agreed to do so. Imagine though, all the unsuspecting people that believe it. The number is from New York and he spoke with an Indian accent. Maybe, they are using several phone numbers and several people so your experience may be different. Just don't fall for it.

- Minneapolis, MN, USA

I received a phone call from a man claiming to be a "Police Officer with Microsoft Security" and that if I didn't immediately call him back my IP address would be "disconnected"; this was a voicemail that was left on my phone. He also stated that warning messages were being received from my computer to his end (no detail given.) He also issued me a fake "case number" and said legal actions would be taken soon. However, he never once addressed me by name or by company (he called my work phone number - I don't leave my name on voicemail recordings). I googled the phone number and found no information; if this was a legitimate company, the phone number would be searchable. I also found other information on scams similar to this one, in addition to the fact that I've also recently had people calling about how I've "won government grants". I don't know how this number has been identified for scammers, but I wanted to report it so that others are aware and hopefully someone can catch these people.

- Hemet, CA, USA

Guy says his name is Brendan Lawson at Microsoft Security. Told me that my computer has a virus and to go to my computer at hit the windows key plus the R key. Then he said that I should type in eventvwr and press ok.

I didn't but he kept telling me all this stuff that I needed to do, so I hung up on him and filed this report instead.
