Matt Dures Reports & Reviews (1)

I started off applying for a job on Indeed, to a legitimate company, Aerion Rental Services. Later I was contacted via email by who I thought was the employer or a company representative, "[email protected]" (The email listed sender's name as that of the company). The message simply said,

"Hello [name],

Your application was received and a shortlist have been made. Please forward your resume to durematts1 (at) gmail.com."

I thought the grammar was a bit weird and that I had to forward my resume, but I went along with it. About a day or so later, I get an email from this guy, "Matt Dures" saying he's very impressed with my resume, that the position I applied for is closed, but he has an opening for a personal assistant. He claims he is a retired civil engineer who now works as a successful traveling entrepreneur, and that he was in Toronto at the time of the email. He says I would make $700 a week running errands for him, handling his finances, making appearances in his behalf, and scheduling his flights. He also says that even though he's still out of town he has a few things we can get started on, he just needs basic stuff--my name, address, email, phone number, and current occupation. After sending that, he asks me a few basic questions, mainly about my personal availability and how trustworthy I am with funds. Everything seemed pretty convincing so once again I agreed to go through with everything.

After answering his questions he sends another email saying what my first assignment is. He says a client was supposed to make a payment to him earlier in the week, but he instead instructs the client to make the payment to me using my own bank account. At the same day I received this email, I got a check in the mail via USPS for $3,385.00. He says once I receive the check I should deposit it in the bank and let him know when the funds will be available to him. At this point I get suspicious and ask him for his phone number to contact him, then explain that I had some reservations about using my own account for this.

He tells me that he's only doing this since he's not able to set up an account in his name that I can access as of yet, that my bank can definitely verify it before clearing it, and that he can understand why I would feel that way, that when he returns to the US he will make setting up an account for me to use his first priority. So the next day I go and deposit the check in the afternoon, he asks me when the funds will be available. I let him know they'll be available the next day. The next day he has me run some errands for him now using the money, starting with purchasing a money order for $3,000.00. I had to get 6 money orders worth $500 each, and then he has me go to the nearest UPS store to have them sent to an address in Brooklyn, NY to somebody presumably foreign (name was Zarin Tasnim). He also specified for me to use next-day shipping.

After that he asks me how much of the money is left, I tell him it's a little over $300. He tells me to go to Walgreens and buy 3 iTunes gift cards worth $100 each. I go and do it, he asks for the codes off the back of the gift cards, which I send to him by taking pictures. After this he tells me everything's good and that I'll be getting paid Friday. The very next day when I try to use my card to buy some food it gets declined. I pulled up my bank statement and the check he sent me bounced... My account was overdrawn for $2500. The bank told me the check he sent me was in the name of an existing company, but the address was invalid and most likely didn't exist. If anybody gets an email from this guy or anything like it, DO NOT go through with it.
