Job Offers Reports & Reviews (2)

Outlier lists AI-related job openings on multiple job search websites. I applied to several openings. I received an offer via email that prompted me to create an online Outlier account, upload picture identification (I used my California driver license), connect a payment method (I connected my bank account), participate in online training, and join a Slack channel. After doing all of that, I did not receive any further communication, so I directed my bank to freeze my bank account and provide a new bank account number. The Outlier website does not permit me to delete my Outlier account. Outlier maintains a Terms of Use website page (https://outlier.ai/legal/terms-of-use) that claims it is registered in the State of Delaware as Smart Ecosystem, Inc. and the Delaware Department of State Division of Corporations provides the following information about this corporation:

Scammer contacts people via email, pretending to represent a company hiring for a position. They tell them they've been selected and there is a screening process that takes 60-90 minutes, which we assume means they are giving personal identifying information away to them. At some point they ask for the person to pay money. In this case, they had several different email addresses with the company and without the company name included, using gmail accounts. Many contacted us because something didn't feel right. Don't give any information or money to these guys.

More About Recruitment Fraud Scams

Recruitment fraud scams come in many forms and can be difficult to spot. Fraudsters are constantly adapting their tactics, so it’s important to stay informed about the types of scams out there.

COMMON RECRUITMENT FRAUD SCHEMES INCLUDE:

Phishing emails that appear to be from a legitimate company but contain links leading to malicious websites or attachments containing malware.

Fake job postings that require you to provide personal information or money upfront in order to secure the position.

Businesses that claim to represent a company but are actually attempting to collect your personal information for malicious purposes.

Companies that ask for payment in exchange for access to job opportunities, training materials, or other services.

It’s important to be mindful of these potential scams and to always do your research before responding to job postings, especially those that appear too good to be true. Be sure to verify the authenticity of any company you are considering working with by contacting them directly or researching their website and online presence. Additionally, never provide personal information or payment upfront in exchange for services. Legitimate companies will not require this type of compensation before you have been hired. If a company is asking for money, walk away and report them to the authorities immediately. Read more about this here. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Protect your personal information and finances by being aware of these scams. Best of luck in your job search!
