I was approached about a remote graphic design job through the company MarineMax. I filled out interview questions and was told I got the job. I was sent 2 documents through Dropbox and asked to send a photo of my ID. I was told HR would reach out to answer any questions and they were to send a check to me for my equipment costs. I did not receive the call and all contact remained only through email. When I received the check it did not have the companies name on it and was way more than what I thought a company that I haven’t even done work for yet would invest in a new hire. I was told to take the check and deposit it via a text from someone named Beth Garland. When I went to the bank I explained to the bank tellers my situation and had them look at the check. They advised me not to deposit the check as they thought it was a scam. When I told the employer who was instructing me what steps to take after the deposit that I wouldn’t be doing that because of the risk of fraud, they replied with a simple “that’s rude” and I haven’t replied or heard from them since.

I applied for remote customer service job and the same day got a text message for Mr.Freeman claiming to be a recruiter for Kinetic Concepts. He sent me a link to Microsoft messenger where he conducted an interview via messenger. I was asked several questions and then hired rite on the spot, the questions seemed professional and legit. Then I was sent company headed offer letter which I filled out and sent back. the email was a regular gmail address with no company signature however I noticed that later. I was told I would get a check in the mail to pay for office supplies and a sign on bonus.. I immediately did more research called the company and asked a CSR what the hiring process was for her. And she concurred it was a scam because her interview was over the phone and the company would never send you money without working first.
