I received a phone call from a man (Sean) who said a man named Cornelius contacted him to paint the exterior of a home I have listed for sale (I am the Realtor). He said Cornelius claimed to be the owner and was in the military. The painter (Sean 502-xxx-xxxx) arrived at the property, saw my for sale sign in the yard and decided to call me to confirm. The actual owner (a real Veteran) moved out last week due to a job transfer and did not contact anyone to paint or do any work at the property. The property is vacant and currently listed for sale. I requested the painter also file a scam complaint. I have also alerted the homeowner of the scam. I have a screenshot of the text message exchange between the painter and Cornelius, but it contains the property address so I will not share that here. It appears both Sean (the painter) AND the homeowner were targets of a potential scammer. Please contact me for further information.
