This company is very slick at calling for the store manager, who is asked to verify the store address and other info. When they say 'Yes' to anything, that snippet is cobbled into an audio confirmation that the order for directory advertising is approved. When the threatening collections call comes, they play back the audio as evidence to whomever is challenging the invoice.

Fortunately, our store managers are trained to not approve any advertising or cold calls of any kind over the phone..

These people call constantly telling us we owe them money for their services, when asked what it is they do and when we signed up and what we signed up for, they simply say "we're Canadian Business Pages". We asked them to provide us with a copy of our purchase order number that we use for all payments, they were unable to provide us with this information. This has been going on for two years.

They called and wanted to confirm our "business listing." (Knowing damn well this was a scam) I asked how long we've been listed. She said for the past year. I explained that we haven't existed that long so how could that be? She then said new businesses are free for the first year and that is how. (Doesn't make sense.) I asked for their website (so I could find our "listing") she gave me canadianbusinesspages.com. (doesn't exist) But I did find canadianbusinesslistings.ca and guess what? My listing is not there... Imagine that. I took her name and number and said if the owner is interested he will call her.

I once worked at a company that had the same "business practices." Their sales pitch is "confirming listings" that don't exist for a website that doesn't exist then billing and harrassing. They don't tell the rep they are "selling" they say they are "renewing" so we didn't realize we were scamming people. Once I caught on that it was a scam I quit. Later I found out he got raided and shut down.

Canadian Business Pages - Received numerous phone calls as well as an invoice from "Christine" at Canadian Business Pages. When told there was no services agreed to from Canadian Business Pages "Christine states that we have been a customer for years. Phone calls continue to arrive requesting invoice be paid.

A person called our office asking if the address and phone number they had were correct and if the person they

were talking to was authorized to have them send the invoice. They recorded this and then called us to pay them saying this was our authorization to advertise and therefore to bill us.

- Started in April 2015: Initial phone contract our office indicating that there's an overdue invoice (Inv #801873). Call frequency: once a week, each time from the same lady named Christine.

- Our company was experiencing some turnover in staff, and therefore no solid record on subscribing services from Canadian Business Pages. All our most-recent staff (employed since December 2014) said they don't recall a company with that name.

- One suspicious thing is that, the company name billed to is our inter-company, which does not generate any revenue and expense from outside companies. Our inter-company only does business with the other inter-company. There's no way we would subscribe for the directory because we don't advertise that inter-company.

- We also checked our book to see any prior payments to the directory company. No record was found.

- From April 2015 - March 2016, we regularly received phone calls from Canadian Business Pages demanding for payment. Most of the time Christine would leave a message, other time we would take a message from her.

- We figured it was a scam because:

(1) Our inter-company does not need advertisement

(2) We did some research about Canadian Business Pages. Most of the search results generated are scam-related.

(3) Christine could only be reached by phone, and had no email address we can contact. Nowadays, it should be reasonable to leave your work email for business purpose because people can be reached virtually.

(4) After more than a year, they still haven't send the bill to collection?

- On March 21, 2016, Canadian Business Pages faxed us a collection notice with grammatical error. We decided to file a complain.

I recently received a bill over 576.45$ from Canadian Business Pages over services that I did not recall authorizing. I went to check their website, which reinforced this thought. We are a foundations contractor, so our audience is not the kind to check in the local or online business lisitings. I have been reducing even more 'legitimate' listings, such as thr Yellow Pages, or 411. Canbiz pages does not seem professional or high profile at all, so I cannot see why I or any of my colleagues would have ever agreed to a lisiting. I emailed them saying I did not recall authorizing this listing. I also left a voice mail at the phone number listed on the bill. A woman called Samantha Palmer called me back a few days later, saying that I had authorized the services and that she was going to get the recording from Head Office. She called me back today and plaid said recording. Then I remembered. This company had contacted me early this year. I don't recall the specific date as I am getting many unsolicited phone calls from advertising/ marketing services providers - it is hard to keep track of all of them. I believe they actually called me twice, unless it was another company with a similar scheme. The way they work is that they have a sales person call you with an offer, which you then decline. They then put you through to a second person. This second conversation is recorded. This person 'verifies' your address. At the end they ask you if you authorize them to send the 'product' or 'service' to your address. I don't remember if it was the first or second time, but I was put off by that and said 'what service?', they then say that you'd have to talk to the sales person about that, since they can't see. In the particular recording that she played today you can hear them verify our company address then asking me to confirm that they can send me x bill. The part you can't hear (because they incidentally don't record that), is them telling me how there was an outstanding balance from previous agreements. On the bill they sent are no dates. There is absolutely no agreement in writing. Again, I would have never authorized any services with them. We are listed on their website, but it's copy-paste from our website. Had I placed an order with them, I would have monitored it and provided adequate listing information, but I did not. I highly doubt that anyone in the past would have, unless they were 'trapped' the same way I was. Samantha was overall very rude and insulting, threatening all sorts of legal action. Their way of conducting business is highly unethical and I do not intend on paying this bill.
