Booking.com Company Name Spoofing Reports & Reviews (1)

- Atlanta, GA, USA

and on 6/28/19 I was scammed yesterday into buying a total of $2862.00 in Hotel.com gift cards. Attached you will see the gift cards, receipts, and the hotel cancellation email that was sent to me from Booking.com.

This is the situation that occurred. First, I Googled Booking.com contact information. Once I got the number, I then called the number that I saw. I called to see if it would be possible to change the dates on my reservation. The person who answered the call told me in order to change the reservation I would need to cancel the reservation and I would need to buy a gift card from Booking.com. I then told the phone operator never mind and then they hung up on me. This was at 3:40 p.m. I was on the phone with her for approximately 8 minutes and 15 seconds. At 4:03 p.m I received an email from Booking.com that my reservation was canceled. I then called the place I made the reservation for (Daytona Beach Resort and Conference Center) back and the phone operator connected me to their supervisor of Booking.com Billing Department. The supervisor then told me that in order for me to keep my original reservation that I would need to use a different payment method. The reason being was that my name was on the reservation and my wife's name was on the card that was used to pay for the reservation in the first place. As the supervisor said during the call we had, he told me that in order to hold the reservation I would need to purchase a Booking.com gift card and he gave me the address to a Kroger near my house in order to do so. He told me to remain on the phone until this was complete, the reason he gave me was that they already messed up by canceling my reservation and that we wanted to ensure that they fix it.

When I got to Kroger I told him that there was no Booking.com gift cards. He then said to get Hotels.com gift cards. The reason for this was because Booking.com and Hotels.com are sister companies and as the supervisor explained over the phone, they use the same gift cards. With that being said I assumed that the gift cards can be used the same way the 2 companies would use them based off of the information that was given to me from the supervisor. Also, the supervisor stated that for the inconvenience that he would give us a discount of $138.00 and with that being said he told me to make the sure I got the gift card get it in the amount of $400.00. So I did, and then he apologized and said that it was his mistake that I needed to get a card in the amount of $400.00 because the original amount $538.00 which is the total amount of my reservation. Once this tedious task was completed, he then told me that it was supposed to be $938.00. The reason for this was because the supervisor wanted to make sure that the $400.00 was given back for the original gift card and to make sure that the $538.00 was supposed to be used for the original reservation which adds the total up to $938.00. He then said that the system is showing a $3,000.00 difference and that in order for us to get our money back, we would need to bring the balance up to $3,000.00. The supervisor then said to only get one more gift card for a total of $986.00 and that he will take care of the remaining balance of $138.00 for the trouble we had gone through and that once this issue is resolved that they would give discounts for future vacations. At this point I was fed up and decided that I wanted to cancel the reservation and get my money back. Once I made this request the supervisor then informed me that "it is in the fine print" on the reservation and that once I purchased the reservation that I agreed to the terms and conditions and that is the reason why I got the final gift card to add up to the total amount of $986.00 hoping that this whole issue would be resolved.

So once I did this he then transferred my call to the refund department. At this time the person introduced himself as Vijay and gave me his direct number in case we got disconnected (833-272-0212). The first number I called was 855-471-7097. He then told me that he was very sorry because I was lied to about the $3,000.00 and that the amount was $5,000 total not $3,000.00. At this point, I told him there was no way I would do anything without seeing it in writing. At this point the supervisor then said he was in Singapore with his family on vacation and did not have his company laptop with him and that I would have to trust him because according to him he was a "family man" and he understood what I was going through. At this point I told him that before I do anything else I would contact the police and he responded with saying that it was ok to call the police and to talk to him again if I wanted to resolve the issue. The supervisor also said it had to be done by midnight because according to him "the system will cancel everything and I will have to start the process over again".

At this point, my wife and I went to the Doraville Police Station to file a police report. The police information and case number is on the attachment.

Today (6/29/19) we went to our bank and they informed us there was nothing they could do and that we needed to talk to Booking.com directly. I then called Booking.com and they told that I needed to email them the whole incident and give them the information I have given you today. I was also told that I would be contacted by an investigator from your company. Below is my contact information waiting on you to not only give me my money back but to see someone in jail for scamming me.
