A big box comes up on your screen that says your computer is on the verge of crashing. You cannot get out of it and it keeps looping. They give you a phone number they say is a microsoft number, and that they will fix it if you purchase their software. In the meantime, you are unable to do anything on your computer. They told me that if I did not purchase the software, my computer would go dead and it would be my responsibility. It was like they were holding my computer hostage. I finally hung up on them and shut off my computer. when I restarted it, everything was fine.

My mother in law and I were getting on soapsheknows.com, a website I have visited many times, to see what was happening the next week on our favorite soap opera and the screen turned blue, an alarm started going off, and had white writing with a woman's voice reading aloud saying that it was a virus and to call the number on the screen so the tech support could take it off. I could not navigate away from it so I called the number and spoke with a man who said his name was Sharad Yadav and he explained that he needed to have access to the computer to fix the problem so I gave it to him. He asked me questions like had we logged on to any bank accounts or made any purchases lately? I told him yes I had been on my bank account he said ok well you have definitely been hacked and he pulled up a window showing me where there were hackers on the computer and that he would need to connect me to a Microsoft Technician and asked me if I would like a 1 month plan or a year plan and that I would need to pay him before he could connect me. Luckily my mother in law had just seen on the Channel 10 News where T Mobile customers had been scammed and she said she didn't trust it. She had me ask him several questions such as his name, address of his business, phone number, and his website. None of it added up his website was pitiful and he continued to ask me about payment for a technician. I finally told him I would call Microsoft and get a technician myself, he asked me why and I told him I didn't trust him and hung up. I looked up Microsoft on my phone and called and got a technician, we didn't really want to trust him either but he proved his self with proper documents, and he got access to the computer and showed me where the scammer had put a program on the computer where he could see everything that was being done. The technician the took all of it off of there including the viruses the scammer had added. The scammer had definitely done their home work their chat window was exactly like Microsoft's except for the licensed Microsoft logo and their prices weren't far off from Microsoft's they were a little higher, I can't exactly remember, and the length of the plan was the same.
