SMS Health also RCE Reports & Reviews (1)

On 9/30/21 at 3:37 pm I got a call from a lady who identified herself as Hannah. Hannah claimed she was from SMS Health and that Medicare hired them to contact people who might be eligible for Cardiovascular Genetic Screening. She told me the test would be covered by my Part B Medicare coverage. She was not very articulate and sounded like she was in a call center with others in the background saying similar things. At one point it sounded like a guy was telling her what to say. She said that "the info they had was too complicated and involved to explain in a letter so Medicare hired them to reach out to people because of Covid." That was odd as was so much of the phone call. She asked me a few health questions - 1) Whether or not I had high BP or high Cholesterol, 2) If I had had a heart attack, stroke or similar event, 3) If I had any family members with heart issues. I answered the questions, curious to see where this was heading. She said I qualified for the test and a white envelope would come in 5 - 7 bus. days with a DNA swab kit inside. She said to swab inside my cheek, send it back and the results would be shared with me, my PCP, cardiologist and anyone else on my healthcare team. Next, she had me confirm my address, phone number and date of birth. After that, she transferred me to another individual to do the same thing. When I asked why that was necessary she said they confirm whether or not she's doing her job. /The new guy said "Thank you for calling RCE" and identified himself as George. When I asked what RCE was he said their parent company was "My Doctor Live", which I've heard of but never used. When I asked if he was affiliated with Medicare he said no and I told him "that's not what the other lady told me". He said "she shouldn't have told you that" and that "now you are no longer eligible for the DNA testing because you refuse to answer my questions". I asked him what his last name was but he refused to tell me and claimed it was in violation of HIPPA. I hung up./ A few minutes later they called back, twice. I ignored it at first, then answered. Now, a different man was on the phone claiming to be Hannah's supervisor. I don't think he ever gave me his name. He tried to guilt me and make it seem like it was my fault that I wasn't trusting them. He implied that I was missing out on a helpful service if I didn't complete this call. By now I was pretty angry and resenting the fact I had wasted so much time. I asked him "what this was all about and do they represent Medicare?" He tried to tell me that they ARE a legitimate company, an independent contractor hired by Medicare to make these calls. Again, his tone made it seem like he was trying to make me feel guilty or like I had done something wrong because I wasn't listening. I hung up. /They provided no credentials, no website, no address, no last names or ID codes, nothing. I tried to look up SMS Health after and could not find a legitimate company. I did find a small blurb about RCE on a website called "Crunchbase" that said RCE was a 10 employee, for profit company based in Atlanta, GA. The site said "AI based medical device & technology company that detects early progression of underlying cardiac muscle injury prior to a heart attack. (408)796-9709. I don't know if this company is legit, if they are making the calls or not, or if the 2nd caller, George, just used their name. He didn't tell me anything about the company. I am blocking their number today 413-526-6646.
