After researching the company online, I confirmed that while they are based out of California, the phone number from the text had a Florida area code - which is where Prentice Law was supposed to be based out of. This was my first red flag, but I decided that perhaps the person contacting me was also remote, so could be outside of the many locations owned by RC, which is a rather large conglomerate (if legitimate? - there's a website, workplace reviews on Glassdoor, Wikipedia entry, but no easily found contact info).

Per the text, I initiated contact via the Telegram app. During the "interview " I tried to gain more detailed I formation about the interviewer, her role in the company, and more details about the position. The questions about the company and her position were evaded, though she did direct me to the company's website towards the end of the "interview" to learn more about the company's benefits offerings.

She also asked me which of the positions I was most interested in, which was odd since it would be assumed all three roles/tasks would be included in the one position in the way the position was titled and referred to previously. When I asked about this, there was a long pause and then a copied job description for just an Administrative Assistant with typical job duties listed was given, and she asked, "Can you handle that?" Again, a bit odd for a professional recruiter/interviewer to use that wording.

Work hours given were inconsistent - maximum 45 hours, 40-50 hours, 8am-2pm M-F.

Remote status was also somewhat ambiguous in the wording throughout:

This opportunity enables you to work from home for the main time until we set up a new office closer to your location.

(Implies the position may require at least some on-site work, if not transferring fully once the office is established. When asked about this:)

This is a remote position.

You can remain a remote employee.

Nothing said about the office location timeframe or general area within my metropolitan area where it would be - questions ignored.

I was asked a few basic interview questions, and then:

Well, you have done well so far, and you seem like a perfect fit for this position.

Hold on online while I send your answers to my superiors for review and consideration okay.

I scored 8.5 of 10 and was hired! No skills test, no questions regarding specific aspects of the job requirements.

The next step was to compete a 2 week training to get my office and software set up. I would be introduced to my trainer the next morning. I would also receive a $100 check to go toward my initial setup.

I asked if there was anyone else I could contact to verify the job was legitimate, and she just said it was legitimate, and my trainer could verify that. Right.

I looked again at the company website and job postings there, as well as the posting I apied for on Talent. The req numbers for the jobs all have different formats.

All of this, plus $100 being sent after such little interaction, questionable grammar and punctuation (not totally obvious, but enough mistakes to question), and the fact that the messages in the app seemed very much like they were bits and pieces copied from what were likely real job postings and interview exchanges, well, I just don't feel this is real. It also very much mirrors a scam experience listed in December 2021.
