In inquired about a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel through Paws Centre Rescue and they emailed me back. It took them several weeks to get back to me, but they did. Something didn't seem right. Here is their original email they sent to me.

"Thanks for making contact. sorry for the delayed reply. We are all volunteers and have jobs , families and outside commitments just so you know. Today is rehoming date for Mr charlie meaning charlie is ready to go to a new forever home. All of our dogs go to foster homes for a minimum of 3 weeks in order to gain temperament information. The rehoming date is when the dog completes its foster period and will be available for adoption after spending time with a trainer for evaluation or basic training . Please be aware that the demand is much higher than the supply of dogs and the wait is very long to get a dog. All of the dogs are currently in foster homes while their needs are being addressed by their loving foster parents and the expert help of our veterinarians. we are not in a rush to place charlie. we just want a good home for the dog where he will be spoiled rotten, car rides, gourmet style meal, park visit and be treated like a family member. We feed Charlie once in the morning at 7 am and at 12 gets water and treats ,at 6 he gets second meal, we take the dogs out when they need to go but mostly after the meal and also once at 11 at night has their last potty of the day. We advise he stay on the food or routine to ease transition. Charlie is potty train, fixed, up to date on shots and charlie has been tested cleared & free of PSOM murmur, MVD, CHF. neurological issues like syringomielia. Charlie get along with cats and other dogs. super friendly with kids . Charlie is 8 months old. very healthy. no fault on his own. His previous owner passed away and the family surrendered the dog to us with the complete paper works. we got a hold of the breeder and the breeder told us everything we needed to know. Unfortunately the breeder had move to New Zealand and we could not return the dog to them. we feed charlie Royal Canin dry dog food brand with fresh vegetables and added vitamins and minerals. he get only USA made dye free treats & his favorite toys/treats are chewy bones. The dog sleep in his bed and sometimes with it humans . we walk him at least 5 times a week. 7 weeks to get his hair cuts. And get a weekly bath. Charlie is currently been fostered at Ironwood Michigan 49938. Do you have a date in mind for viewing or would you mind delivery. either ways work for us. we have a process in place to move dogs to their new home. we are familiar with the transportation process so can deliver within USA. better still come take a look . personal pick up welcome . Sorry about the lost of your previous cav. hope he/she is in doggy heaven. we are considering you as charlie new mommy because you have had expertise experience with the breed. You have to promise us you will take very good care of the dog . Also, owning a dog is a lifetime commitment. They are family members and are not to be tied up, left alone or to run loose where they live.
Respectfully.
Brittany. "

After I received this initial email, I looked up the location they said he was in and asked about delivery fees. I also asked how I would go about paying the fees.

Here was their response:

"ok cool . Attached are photos of the Charlie. please do send us pictures of the environment where the dog will be staying since a home visit is not possible due to distance and the current health crisis. No vetting or phone interview will be done because you have had experience with cav's. Just a virtual home visit so would love pics of the environment to make sure is a very safe environment for the dog to live in. Is gonna cost $300 total including the dog, transportation, vet records, bill of sale, favorite toys and remaining food. so sad a home visit is out of the question due to the health pandemic . we can set up delivery after a refundable deposit of $200 is made so we can cover travel cost and paper works and the rest payment ($100) once the dog is on the way. we just want to make sure u are fully committed and won't back out. we don't want to be mucked about. your money will be refunded if the Dog is not of your expectation on arrival. will send a picture of clarification just so you know the Dog is getting sent and the delivery plan will be send through email. The deliveryman will ring you with details of the delivery plan once we finalize everything. you have to send us your delivery info so that we can set up delivery either to your neighborhood or at your nearest airport. let us know if you want it deliver at your house, a public place or nearest airport. so do get back to us with your delivery information (new owners name, address, nearest airport & contact number) so that we can do the paper works and arrange delivery. We'll get back to you with details once we suss delivery. Also, we gonna shoot you a ring with details of the delivery schedule and a bill of sale and a receipt of the $200 deposit will be issued to you once you reserve the dog for delivery . we think is best for the dog to be flown though we usually have them driven or accompanied by our volunteers to their new home. nevertheless we'll get back to you with the full delivery plan once we finalize everything ok. We can make it happen today or tomorrow latest depending on what time you make the deposit.
Respectfully.
Brittany. "

Here was my response back:

"So for adoption, papers, delivery and everything, it’s only a total of $200? How would I pay the $200 deposit? We may fly out to Rhinelander-Oneida airport, rent a car and see him. If all checks out, I will give you the full $300 cash and we will bring home with us. Is this also an option?
Please let me know and I can arrange it and send you photos of where he will be living and a virtual home tour.

I look forward to hearing back from you and would love to speak with you or someone about arrangements to pick him up.

She responded promptly to me and here is the response:

"is $300 total. no extra. Charlie will come with complete documentation . $200 deposit and the rest $100 when you pick up the dog. we have had bad experience with potential client who did not show up on appointment so we are wanting $200 down payment to make sure you are serious and we'll hold the dog until your schedule is flexible for pick up. As of now we only accept CASH APP is similar to PayPal. you can download the CASH APP from play store or App store. it only takes approximately 4 Minutes to set it up. we also accept Walmart Visa Gift Card. You can simply run to a near by walmart store and purchase a walmart gift card worth $200 and email us a picture of it. we use the gift card to obtain doggy beds, blankets, crates, food, doggy shampoo, flead treatment, bowls, toys and other doggy supplies/essentials since we solely rely on donation. we prefer you do the walmart gift card so that we can get additional food for the dog until you get here. so have you fixed a date for pick up?. let us know when you are coming this way. And also make the deposit so that we can keep you in file"

I feel like they only want my money and it's a scam. So here was my response back:

"Okay. Is there someone who can call me so I can speak with them about this. I am leery of sending money online and want to speak with someone and make sure this is legitimate. I’m not saying it’s not, but this day and age, you have to be careful. I’ll be heartbroken if I send the money and don’t get the dog. That’s not to say how you operate, but I hear of so many things like this happening.
My phone number is ***** "

I have yet to hear back from them. I also realized that all the dogs they have listed are purebred dogs. I saw someone else said the same thing. This is so wrong. They are stealing people's money! This is fraud and they are a bunch of criminals! I work in law enforcement too. So sad there are thieve out there who act this way.

I have had the same terrible experience with trying to adopt from Paws Centre Rescue as the previous complaint. I was looking for a cavalier and low and behold Paws Center had one on their site. In retrospect, looking at their website they show only 6 or so dogs, all purebred dogs which should have been the first red flag for a rescue site! I filled out an application, they made contact, wanted to know all about me, wanted pictures of my house, etc, etc, all supposedly in the best interest of the dog. And same story, they say they are in no hurry to adopt the dog out but just want a good family for their little ones. But once they ask for payment, it becomes clear they are ALL about the money. And they say things like "we don't want to be mucked around". That was my first indication that I should be careful because I have NEVER known a rescue organization to talk like that. All of this was through email because they won't give a phone number. They wanted to be paid $300.00 through Zelle, Cash App, or a Walmart gift card. I chose the gift card and was told to get a $200.00 gift card and take a picture of the back of the gift card and take a picture of a the receipt for purchase of the card and email to them. And the remaining $100.00 could be paid once they had shipped the dog. I did all that, but when they got the emailed picture of the gift card they wanted me to "gently scratch off the label from the back of the gift card and send a picture of that". That was my clue that there was probably NOT a dog at all! Their website looks professional but these people are nothing but scammers and criminals!

This company pretends to be a charity that finds homes for rescue dogs. (Pet adoption). Their ad came across my Facebook page. I filled out their adoption form online and heard back from them a few days later.

They make out they want the potential adoptive parents to meet their animals in person but they probably already realise that due to their very remote locations you won’t be able too get there. Also due to they pandemic they offer to ship the pet to you. The fee is $300. They ask for $200 upfront and $100 once dog ships.

Requests for Skype / video chats to see dog are ignored as are requests for charity details and vet records.

They make out that they are in no hurry to see their rescue dogs go and that it is all about finding the right family who will treat their dogs like a family member however once they know you are committed to doing this they offer to ship animal the very next day - they just require payment.

Seems they simply want to secure the money ASAP. When offered to collect dog in person and pay on delivery they stopped communicating.

Upon further looking into their Facebook pages it appears their comments have been deleted so the only comments are people saying how cute the animals are - nothing actually about an adoption success or experience dealing with them.
