Miguel Karam Bencatel Canhao scammed me out of $5100 USD (26,729.323 BRL) in cryptocurrency before blocking me on all social networks.

I met Miguel Karam at the Rio de Janeiro bus terminal on my recent trip to Brazil while waiting for a bus to São Paulo. At the time he was really nice to me and outgoing. We exchanged WhatsApp numbers and the next day he offered to show me around São Paulo which I agreed to. After I returned home he stayed in touch with me and that is when he scammed me.

Migurl started messaging and calling me everyday asking me how I was doing and telling me about his life. One day I told him about a souvenir model sword I wanted to purchase in the liberdade district of São Paulo but didn't. The store where the sword was from is called Profightwrs and is located in the Sogo Plaza building. The scammer offered to go purchase the sword for me and send it to my address. He originally suggested payment by pix but as an American without a CPF, using Pix is not possible. Next Miguel suggested I do the purchase with a credit card. I tried to make the purchase with my chase visa credit card but the bank rejected the transaction as a fraud coming from Trevor Enterprises LLC. Miguel then suggested payment using bitcoin and that worked. The next day Miguel charged me for shipping. About 2 days later Miguel contacts me and tells me that he messed up the customs declaration and wantedme to coverthe fine. Needless to say, Miguel never sent the sword and it has never arrived at my house.

After Miguel Karam knew I had bitcoin, cryptocurrency became his new favorite subject to talk about. He would continue to discuss cryptocurrency advice with me daily. But the next scam involved him telling me about a worthless coin called grass (app.getgrass.io). I signed up like he told me to and noticed I was "earning" quite a bit of this "grass" coin. I asked him how to cash out. He said he needed to put a program on my computer to convert the grass to etherium and he asked me to download anydesk. Once he logged into my computer he distracted me on a video call by asking about the water. He then logged into my coinbase account and sent my entire cryptocurrency balance to a "random" bitcoin and etherium address that he claimed was my grass account. In reality it was his account and when I checked the hash ID I saw that the cryptocurrency forwarded to the same address I had sent for the sword purchase. He would later forward all of the cryptocurrency to his binance account. After this incident Miguel Karam Bencatel Canhao continued to contact me dailyby text on whatsapp, saying he was on a business trip in Rio Grande del Sol for the next week and then he suddenly blocked me from WhatsApp and all of his social media accounts.

I had met Miguel Karam Bencatel Canhao on my recent trip to Brazil and he approached me at the Terminal Rodoviário Novo Rio - Rodoviária do Rio on January 3, 2024. He rode the same bus as me from Rio de Janerio to São Paulo. At that time we had a good

conversation and exchanged whatsapp numbers. Upon returning home, Miguel contacted me and asked how I was doing and told me that he missed me. He also told me that he didn't really have an opportunity to practice English since meeting me and we began a conversation.

I mentioned to Miguel that I wanted to purchase a model sword from Trevor Enterprises LLC in the Libertade neighborhood of São Paulo, Brazil while I was in Brazil but didn't during and he offered to purchase the sword for me and send it to my address. At first I tried to make the purchase through Miguel over a

video call where I showed him the numbers on my chase visa card. The transaction failed and so he suggested that I pay for the sword in bitcoin. I agreed and sent him the bitcoin for the sword. The next day he said he went to the post office and told me that it would be almost $249 to ship the sword to me in the United States. The next day I talked to Miguel again and he informed me that the sword had been sent to me. Two days later he contacts me and tells me that he failed to fill out the customs declaration correctly and that if I wanted the sword delivered he would have to pay the fine. That totaled to $262.

It should be noted that the sword never arrived at my house.

Miguel continued to contact me daily on whatsapp and provided me with tips to invest in different cryptocurrency coins. He informed me about a new coin called "grass" (https://app.getgrass.io/) and said by signing up it would be a great way to make money. He gave me a referral code. On March 18 he contacted me and I asked how I would withdraw my grass. He replied by telling me to download anydesk and he said he would help me to withdraw my grass coins. Once he logged into my computer on anydesk, Miguel logged into my coinbase account. He then sent all of my remaining balance of etherium and bitcoin to a new bitcoin wallet, which would later get forwarded to his binance account.

Since the incident. Miguel has blocked me from whatsapp and all social media channels that he owns. In total, Miguel Karam Bencatel Canhao has stolen USD $5115.78 from my coinbase account.
