- Goldendale, WA, USA

I received an automated phone call stating they were going to charge my bank account for an ‘Auto-renewal’ and it said if I didn’t want the auto-renewal I needed to call this number: 1 808 353 8510. I called it and an Asian man said I need to give them access to my computer so they can cancel the renewal and not have my bank account charged. I asked him what it was for and he said ‘Microsoft Windows Defender’. I told him I didn’t know him and I wanted to talk to his supervisor and another Asian man got on. I asked the name of their company, he said, ‘Microsoft Windows Service Provider’. He said they needed to access my computer to cancel the auto-renewal. He wouldn’t give me info on how to cancel it myself. He said he could verify their company was legitimate by having me press the windows button while simultaneously pressing ‘r’. I did that and he read off a number that he said was my individual computer ID. It was the same number but I thought anyone with computer knowledge would know that. I was angry and trying to find out if they were legitimate and he had me bring up another window that had a foreign language header but in a list of English commands, # 2 said ‘give control of my computer’. I hung up.
