Daymaker is a for-profit "giving platform." Donors buy toys, books, clothes, etc. from them and then they ship them to a child chosen by the donor. The problem is that many of the gifts have already been donated even before they are purchased by the donor. This means the donor is basically just reimbursing the for-profit company for a donation that has already been made and that would be received by the child regardless of whether it's purchased (CVS is being sued for fraud for doing something similar). Additionally, sometimes the gift is not actually sent to the child/non-profit that is selected by the donor. It is sent to a different child. Daymaker now admits to all of this on their own website after receiving substantial criticisms for clients this past winter: https://join.daymaker.com/faq

However, this information was not disclosed until the past couple months. Daymaker has been doing this for years without telling their donors that the gifts they were purchasing had already been donated and thus their purchase would actually have no bearing on whether the child received the gift. During this time, they also misrepresented their status- claiming to be a certified B-Corp when they had no such certification. They are making money off of defrauding donors. According to their website, nearly $5 million worth of gifts have been purchased on their platform so far.
