GWA Group Limited Reports & Reviews (6)

I received on email a request similar to this, different company - Heraeus Group - same Hiring Manager - Vincent Terry. Today I have received a cheque from McConnell Family Dentistry, 1200 W 4th St. Ste. A, Tahlequah OK 74484. The return address on the FedEx envelope is rigin ID NQIA Dentia Dancy, 10004 Westview Dr. #8, Houston TX 77055.

I am convinced this is a scam, and notified Vincent Terry that I was no longer accepting their offer of employment. Obviously the cheque had already been sent, so now what do I do about the cheque? Can I just destroy it, or send it back to the Dentistry?

I received an e-mail that read like this. I will explain how I realized it was a scam but first read the e-mail I received:

I was really, REALLY hopeful this would be an actual job opportunity as I have been struggling due to COVID-19 and can only work remotely. Yet again, the scammers are being an obstacle in finding my ideal job. But let’s talk about what made me realize this was a scam:
- The grammatical mistakes on the title. If it was really someone professional sending this message I doubt they would’ve typed like that.
- A quick google search will let you know that the actual company does not use a g-mail account but instead use “gwagroup12.com.au” (which they did add but…c’mon, the @g-mail.com is still there).
- Data Entry jobs will rarely pay more than $18 an hour, and if they do you will be doing something else besides data entry, such as customer service, sales, etc.
- I did not submit my resume to them on Jobmote.com, I sent it to another employer.
- Again, more grammatical mistakes. Really? “Done downloading THE hangout”?
- This is a common scam if you type in GWA LTD scam on Google, the company does exist but whoever is sending these e-mail DOES NOT WORK FOR THEM.

This scammer used indeed.com, a job site, to post a fake employment notice. Then contacted me a few months later.

First by email, then by text. Got my info off the site.

Sent me a conditional employment application, then an approved employment notice. Both asking for minor questions, no financial info.

Did a google search, found out I'm not the only person they did this too. The company is real, but this person does not represent them in any way.

The phone number is a VOIP number out of NY, the email I think is pinging between Irvine and LA, California.

Called the phone number, the person had an African accent. Called himself Harrison Parker. Said I would need to buy a whole bunch of equipment, but I would be reimbursed. Said they had studios in Toronto, but I couldn't get the address, a face to face interview (online or otherwise), or any real job description specifics until I had completed the process of signing on with the company.

Scammer contacted me by text asking "Is this__My name____?" Next he asked if I had posted my resume on indeed.com. He asked if I received his email (granted it was in spam and the grammer did not look professional so I already had my guard up). Over the next hour he offered me a job for $50/hr (I did research him and the company. He had a LinkedIn page that looked legitimate but the the next day it was gone. The company is a real company). He told me I would need to buy supplies and he is sending a check for them. He said to contact him for further instructions once the check comes. The check came but at this point I was feeling uncomfortable so I asked for a Skype meeting. He told me the company doesn't use Skype and repeated his instructions about the check. At this point I looked up the information on the Better Busniness Bureau and found out other people had a similar situation and it must be a scam. Don't get caught! If something looks too good to be true it is.
