Young man called saying he was my grandson who was involved in a car wreck in Baltimore while attending a friend's engagement party. He was being arrested, although the accident wasn't his fault, because the police said he was on his cell phone, but he was just trying to find his way back to his hotel. He gave me a phone number to call a John Weber, his attorney, and a case number. He wanted me to post his bail and promised to pay me back as he had the money in the bank. Said several times he didn't have much time left for the call and at the end he played it up acting as if the officer was taking the phone away and the call clicked off. A few minutes later, a man called and identified himself as John Weber, Attorney-at-Law, in Maryland and asked if my grandson had time to call me. I asked which grandson and he hung up.

Got a call from "grandson" stating he was in a wreck and in jail. Told to send $6,000 to son for public defender. Went to bank to get money and was overheard from another person at bank and was stopped. Was told by scammer to go to a certain bank and not to tell the bankers what it was for. Lied to bankers about what it was for however Cefcu in Washington, IL had a feeling and finally got the story out of me and let me know they were being scammed.

A caller identified himself as our grandson. I knew it was not our grandson’s voice, so I asked where he lived, where he was, etc. and he hung up. He talked to my husband first, and he started to buy the story and asked him about the accident the caller said he had been in.

I received a phone call from a person claiming to be my grandson (they knew his name) saying he was in a terrible car accident where he was drunk and hit a pregnant woman. He gave me a number to call his lawyer. I called the lawyer who claimed to be a district attorney (of PA) and said they needed $8,000 to get my grandson out of prison. I was so scared. I said I was calling my daughter and hung up the phone. My daughter said my grandson was fine. My only concern is that I gave them my name.

received a call from my grandson and he didn't want to tell anyone because he was embarrassed he had gone to eat at a restaurant with some friends and had a few drinks and wrecked the car because a lady ran a red light and they took him to jail and he gave case number

and he needed $12,500 and it told him I would have to see...a lawyer called back but I could hardly hear him and he was going to connect me with the bail bondsman

Phone call to grandmother pretending to be grandson in accident / hurt and arrested needing money wired through western union begging and pleading not to tell anyone for fear of job loss and or family / spouse humiliation. The impostor gave a phone number and ext. to verify as if it were an attorney or bondsman or agent of grandson. Grandmother could not reach grandson on phone and assumed this to be actual and an immediate need. When the fraud was realized by another family member on the same day, they then proceeded to take steps through Western Union, who seemed to be concerned but in the end was unable to help even though at the time the money had not yet been received they did not stop the fraud from being completed but could work with law enforcement if contacted. Also filed an incident / investigation report with local sheriff 's department in which they said because the money was received in another state it was out of there jurisdiction to further investigate. Although the family member gave local authorities a phone number to speak to a Western Union agent nothing more was done and the grandmother lost $5,012.00.

Charles *** alleged public defender

Bail scam for grandson that was in an accident, open container hit a a pregnant lady that had a miscarraige. Send $10,000.00 cash.

Number with 52 country code called. I answered and after a moment's delay and some shuffling noises someone said "hello grandpa". My elderly mother had been scammed like this one other time and I do not have any children so it was definitely not my grandson. I played along and said "hi guy" and the person on the other end perked up and said "hi! How are you?". I said I was great and said I was a little busy right that second and could I get his number and call him right back. He sighed and the call was disconnected.

Wanted me to talk to his lawyer.

Reported grandson called his Mama/Papa to say he got in a wreck in Florida and rear ended a woman with a baby and was in jail. He needed $4,000 to post bail. He didn't sound like their grandson but he said that his nose was broken and was having a hard time talking. Our Papa knew something was up when he called his grandfather '***' which is his name and not PaPa!!! They told the callers that they were going to call his mother and talk to her.

The scammers then hung up.

I got a call from my grandson. He sounded exactly like his normal self. He said he'd flown from Kansas City to Miami with friends, they went out to eat and drink, he was driving back to hotel, hit another car, and said there was damage to his car and the car he hit. He said no one was hurt but that he was arrested for DWI/reckless driving, spent overnight in jail, saw a judge in the morning who dismissed the charges but he was ordered to pay $2000 in damage. He also said he lost his billfold and cell phone in the impounded car. He then let me talk to his attorney who said I should go to Best Buy and buy a $2000 gift card or go to Target and buy four $500 gift cards to help him pay the fines. They said they would tell me what to when they call me back. Also, my grandson said he didn't want me to tell anyone about this. I went to my bank, went to Best Buy, got suspicious and called my son (an attorney) who told me it was a scam.

They took him to jail and he did not want his parents to know. Please do not call them and he would have his attorney call me right back to tell me how much and where to send his bail money

Early Friday morning the phone rang and someone on the other end said they were my grandson. They said they got a DUI and that they needed $1500 to make bail. It didn't sound like my grandson so I hung up.

Grandson has been in an automobile accident and was arrested. My grandson was not in an accident. Bring him $2,000.00 in bail bond money so that this will not show on his records. An attorney got on the phone and said to go to Bi Lo and buy 4 ITunes cards and put $450.00 on each card. Then I am to call and will be informed of how to get it to the attorney. Attorney was Peter Walsh phone number was 780-676-1170. Could not talk with grandson.

Consumer received call from 555-555-5555 and the man claimed to be her grandson. Consumer did not fall for it and person hung up.
