Job Scam
I was online searching for a remote job. Honestly I applied for a few .I got a message on the April 14,2023 with the person stating their name on the company they are from and I must download zoom etc ... I followed the steps . The interview was don't via zoom ( by typing )I disclose personal information like address, phone, name and email. However Susan Galvan asked if I have a Printer/ scanner I replied no . Even ask if I'm familiar with certain software I said yes I was so excited they said I was qualified for the position. They said going to send a check and after provide me with a tracking number. Low and behold I received a check this morning (April 17,23) in the mail (they send it to purchase the work materials ) this morning the person messaged me on zoom asking if I received the package. They even sent me a contract to my email to sign.

Wait so it’s not a scam? I just got a text as well from this company and idk if I should go through with it? Did you cash the check etc

I texted with a susan galvin for over 1 hour from GIGROUP same script. re: the office equipment, offer letter and depositing the check.. Gotta be careful out here even looking for a job, It's a damn shame people are that ruthless and greedy. I'm glad i decided to google gigroup scams and what do you know its a scam, If it's too good to be true..It just may be a damn scam..

I went through the same thing and found out the check was fake and realized it was a scam.

The whole thing was dodgy right from the start (text-only interview? "Jack Smith"?) but I went through the initial process anyway. The English was pretty shaky on Mr. Smith's side, but the parent company (the legit company) is in Italy, so I figured maybe that was part of it.

(Needless to say, searches on Glassdoor or LinkedIn revealed no "Jack Smith" working for Gi.)

Anyway, yeah. Finally, there were too many red flags (Payment by check?) so when I got my confirmation of "employment," I just blew the guys off.

Avoid.

I must have applied on a remote job, but cannot remember where. I was contacted by text, and told to download signal messenger and contact Jack Smith, who would conduct an interview. When he responded through Signal Messenger but the app said he had it before as James Smith. I asked him about it and he said his name was Jack J. Smith. He went through a series of questions he says I’m hired, and they’ll send me an employment letter. He also says they will send me a laptop computer and printer for working materials. They sent the letter, from an email address was not from a company email. Also, they said I’d be paid $30 an hour with an 18% raise in a month. I was thinking "this is a real offer or a scammer using the information of a real company".

After I told them I received the employment letter, I was told they’d send a check to me, I was to cash it, and buy the laptop and printer from their vendor. When I replied that they had said the materials would be sent to me, I received a text saying the company wanted both sides to trust each other. At that point I felt that it was definitely a scam, checked here and found someone who had been played the same.
