Elite IT Experts Reports & Reviews (1)

A pop up appeared on my screen and did not allow me to exit out of my browser. The pop up appeared to be from Microsoft and stated that my computer has many viruses and spyware on it and my bank information, email and social media are at risk. It prompted me to call a number which would supposedly connect me to Microsoft tech support and I must do so within the next five minutes or else my computer will shut down. After panicking and calling, a man claimed Elite IT Experts is a company that works with Microsoft or has some sort of connection with them to offer technical support. He walked me through the steps for him to gain remote access of my computer and continued to show me various "viruses" (later I researched they are not harmful) on my computer and claimed that because a trusted source is in control of the device then the hackers can not access anything but if I do not get their help then once they stop having access to my laptop, the hackers will proceed to steal my information. Against better judgement I unfortunately agreed to a credit card payment of 200$ for a "one time fix" (there were 2, 3 and 4 year plans you could choose from as well). He said he was not authorized to do the payment and transferred me over to a man with a heavy Indian accent who proceeded to collect my credit card information and make the payment from my behalf, on my computer, while I sat watching it happen. I voiced concern throughout the process but they ensured me it was legitimate and emailed me the receipts after the transaction was processed. I was then told to "sit back and relax" while they "fixed" my computer. About half an hour into it I grew increasingly weary and decided to look up Microsoft's number myself and call them to ensure the Elite IT Experts company was who they claimed to be. After explaining the situation I was told that it was definitely a scam, Microsoft does not work with this company and to immediately stop the access on my computer and to ask for a refund. After calling the man working on my computer and demanding him to stop and to refund my money back he did cut his access to the computer but said the financial department is closed at this time and that they will call in the morning. The next morning a man called and continued to try and convince me that this was not a scam, after asking him repeatedly what his company's address is he grew increasingly uncomfortable and would not answer any of my questions. I later got an email stating they agree to the refund but I do not expect much from them and it will be a few days until the transaction is processed that I will know if they refunded me or not. After more research I discovered this is a common type of scam and it is likely they installed unwanted malware on my laptop and I payed for a problem that did not exist. Overall it was an incredibly stressful and humiliating situation and I would not wish it upon anyone.
