eBay Motors - IMPOSTER Reports & Reviews (16)

I saw a vehicle for sale on Facebook Marketplace and messaged the seller and said I would like to see it. Her name is Evelyn and she gave me the description of the vehicle and that she was recently divorced and got the truck through the divorce and did not need it. She claimed to be stationed at Ott Air Force Base in Nebraska and need to sell it quick because she was being deployed. I told her I wanted to purchase the vehicle, and then she said that eBay Motors would send me a QR Code to a bitcoin wallet and that it needed to be pay in cash at a specific location. Next came another email right after instructing me that I needed to pay insurance, Evelyn apologized and said that she did not know about the insurance but hoped we could get the transaction done today and instructed me to go back to the Bitcoin ATM. When I told them I did not get authorization yet they said it was authenticated and the vehicle would be delivered in 2-3 days between 5 and 6 pm. Their excuse was since I was using the service for the first time they did not have any feedback yet and I was told that once I received the vehicle I would get the insurance money refunded. I never heard back and so I called ebay found in a google search which was 866-283-5704. The agent said that he would help me get something resolved and all I had to do was purchase a Vanilla gift card of $500 and they would reload the money lost on the card, or they offered to give me an ebay account with $1800 credit.

On March 21, 2022 I came across a posting on facebook (on husband's cell) that had only been out 30 minutes or so. It was for a 2005 Toyota Tacoma SR5 with very low mileage (one owner) for $1200. Pictures were sent as well as a few email conversations about the truck. The seller [email protected] told me she was at a "must sell" as she was in the military and being deployed out of the country. Also told me it belonged to her recently deceased husband. She said I needed to pay by gift cards x6 @ $200 each. I was told once money was received & verified by "Ebay Motors" she would start the shipping process, she had the papers ready and it was to ship within 3 days. When I received the vehicle I would be handed all the paperwork/receipts of all its upkeep, etc, and the title free & clear. The invoice sent from Ebay Motors looked legitimate and it listed all the details. Since my car was about to explode, the life details this woman was sharing and deal I was getting I felt good about this transaction. I did at one point question the payment process and asked her if it was a scam. She blew up with a very worded email basically saying how dare I call her a thief and went on about how I can send the FBI to her house and arrest her and more really weird comments. This was when I began to question but my husband said to do it. She kept sending messages asking if I obtained the gift cards yet and how Ebay was waiting to receive and let her know when I sent it to them. No where in any of the coversations we had did she mention Insurance or other fees I was told $1200 and that was it. So when Ebay recvd my money and confirmed with her I was told all was in order and not to worry. So now they have my $1200 and I get told by the woman that there was a "Misunderstandingvery" and that I had to submit another $1200 for insurance but not to worry I would get it back in cash or check (my preference) upon delivery of vehicle. I still had 5 days to test drive and if I changed my mind then it would go back.. TI kept getting emails from her and ebay saying "just pay money" and "I would get the truck the following day" I advised her and ebay that this additional money I would not pay and new I just got ripped off and not about to send more money to them. This was not disclosed at any time and told them she needs to cover the additional money and she can get refunded. That was the last time I heard from her and ebay. I have sent multiple emails to ebay motors asking for them to refund my money as I have not received the truck and never would. They have not responded to me at all Nor has she. I am embarassed and humiliated and am usually confident in my choices. I guess there is always a first. I am not wealthy and need my money back now to put down on a vehicle that is real and I can see and touch it. The fact Ebay Motors has no problem ripping people off in front of god and the public is disturbing and should be held accountable. I have researched her address but not convinced its real and I am going to check her so called military status. I learned the hard way on this but they stole my money for services never carried out and need to pay me now. I will continue my quest until its end and I hope you will be able to assist or advise what I need to do. Thank you. I can mail you copies of everything including ebay's document. I look forward to your reply and thank you for your time.

That is when I got

A car sales add was placed on facebook. The girls said her cousin is selling a car and she included the email address to email the person. The person then stated she was in the military and her husband died. She stated she has a car for sale. The car belong to her husband and she is selling it because she is in the military and she is being deployed overseas for a year. She does not want to pay insurance for a year along with storage. She then stated she is putting the car sales in the hands of ebay motors. She emailed me pictures of the car. I also got an email from a company with instruction on how to purchase the car. I was told to purchase ebay gift card for the purchase. Enclosed is the attacment. I uploaded the gift cards as instructed. The cost of the card was 800$. After I uploaded the 800$. I was sent a receipt along with another invoice show the insurance was 800$.

While searching on facebook marketplace under Vehicles i was contacted by a person selling an automobile and advised that it was because the children needed surgery. The seller advise need to go to Ebay and send my address and to purchase with ebay gift cards once the money was received I receive an invoice and payment ($1200)and a shipment invoice then the client requested a insurance fee the value of the car and these will be returned once car was delivered ($1200). After requesting a deliver date the person stated that need custom tax money at this point is when requested i called Ebay to find it was a scam and ebay do not accept cards with out it being connected to an ebay account.

I almost brought this 2014 Club Care Precedent 48_listed on-line for $1,200.00 (which included shipping). I thought that was a little suspicious. Thank God - I followed my gut. EBAY MOTORS wanted me to buy gift cards to send to them. Then they sent me an invoice outlining how EBAY Motors process works.

Scammer had "aunt" make original post about camper on Facebook Marketplace. Had email that you were suppose to contact for more information. Scammer refused to provide any background information. Had Ebay Motors email me with a fake invoice with fake contact number. They wanted Ebay gift cards instead of cash. Said this was to insure there protected as well as me. I already knew something was up, so I reached out to the actual customer service number for Ebay. After a brief conversation with them they assured me NOT to send them any money because this was not from them. Also called the number provided and I was hung up on once they were called out for being a scam.

I was on Facebook’s “Marketplace “ looking at RVs. I chose two that I was interested in. I emailed the people who were supposedly the sellers. They replied with stories that described their occupations, one a frontline worker (Nurse) that required the RV free in a divorce. The other a military person being transferred and needed to sell it ASAP. Both stories were embellished with sentiment to sway any skepticism. They both explained that if I was interested I should reply back with my name, address, and phone number so that eBay motors would send me an invoice and particulars about how the transaction would go. I did that and I got an email that showed a description of the RV and price. A free shipping and return “guarantee” as follows; I was supposed to purchase gift cards from either ebay, or Best Buy. Then send them the codes along with PIN numbers. I then new it was a scam, even though it came from Facebook marketplace.

I was looking online to buy a car, and i saw a Tacoma and i send her i message for more inf... She told me that she need to sell fast because she was going to the army thats why it was so cheap and because she was leaving eBay was going to do everything for her and after i receive the truck eBay was going to hold the money until i test the car and i decide if im going to keep it... But i wasn't sure so i search in the internet how eBay works and that's how i find out...

I found precisely the used vehicle that I desired to buy at the lowest price possible. The owner said she was soon to deploy overseas and did not want to pay storage fees for her SUV. She had ten days to sell and would arrange shipment through military transport. If I was interested she would contact middleman Vehicle Protection Program who would arrange escrow payment terms to protect buyer and seller. I was contacted by email with purchase instructions that involved Bitcoin purchase in the amount of vehicle cost of funds. Funds would be transferred once vehicle was in shipment stage. I had problems with the Bitcoin machine and was instructed to buy eBay Gift cards, scratch off code and send photo-copy of receipt and cards by email. There is where I lost my $*** dollars since both the ID # of the cards and the scratch-off code number were on the photocopy that I sent. My next email from Ebay Motors stated that an unknown Tax and added Insurance fee for Oregon car sales to out-of-state destinations had to be paid by car owner and that my $2000 would be delivered to my home where the auto was to be shipped. No cashiers check arrived within 72 hours as stated and the middle-man, as well as sellar, quit answering my attempts to call or email. Both FBI and FTC did not respond to my filing of a complaint. My Senate (Richard Roth) Field Representative (Altie Holcomb) could only offer phone numbers to Consumer Affairs. That office gave phone numbers to Better Business Burael, the Attorney General, and a Legal Service that would assist in the filing of a Small Claims case in Municipal Court.

I was trying to purchase a vehicle via Craigs List that sent me to eBay Motors who then advised me to forward payment monies to them using green dot cards to purchase a 2004 Nissan Maxima SE. After doing so they provided me with a receipt that was stamped paid. Approximately 2 hrs later they said I needed to send more money to insure the vehicle of which upon delivery I would get the money back in cash. At that point I knew I was scammed. I immediately contacted green dot and the representative informed me thst tge funds were used to make purchases at amazon. I notified the local authorities.
