The number came up on my phone as dish network. The person said they were dish network and needed to do an update on my dish equipment and due to the COVID-19 pandemic they would not send out a technician and could do this through the dish signal. Asked for the receiver number on my receiver. Asked if I would use my remote and press the guide twice. Asked for my code number I said there was no code number showing. They asked if I would try again. Asked for the code number. I again said, "there is no code number". They said it would be my dish code, it is the last 4 digits of my social security number, I gave it. They said they were trying the test and it would take up to a min. They said the receiver was good, but I needed new software to continue connection. For being a good customer they were taking $10 off my dish bill. They told me what my bill was at that time and they were correct. They told me what it would be and this would be for the next 4 years. They would need to have a technician call me the next day and the process would take around 20 min. There would be a one time activation fee of $189.08. This would be a savings from the amount they were taking off of my bill for the next 4 years, a saving of around $400. I told them I needed to think about this. He gave me his name "Edward" 845-584-1003 his code number was 8035. If I didn't do this upgrade I would lose my channels one by one. They had moved to a new satellite and this would improve my viewing. I said I had a call on the line and they said they would call back in 5 min. I called dish network and they confirmed it was a scam. They said the Dish Network number was for customers to call only. dish will never call you on that number. They called back while I was on the phone and didn't answer. They called back today again and I did not answer. I had to go to Transunion, Experian, Equifax to put credit holds as well as my bank. Beware of this scam!!!

I recieved a phone call that said Dish on the caller ID so i answered it. They said they were doing a system update to switch satelites and asked me if i was (myname) and if this was my address. I said yes. they told me to click the home button on my remote 3 times i did. On the tv screen was the setup in for the satelite and they asked for the ID number which i gave them. they said now turn off the tv while we do the update and he said hold please to speak to my superviser. all this with an indian accent. the next man said would you like to know why we are changing satelites and i said yes. he said it wil make the picture better quality and you will have no more weather related outages due to rain or snow. He asked me for my pin number to update my information i gave it to him. and that was the last 4 of my SSC #. then he told me i would also get 20 dollars off my bill each month for life and free showtime starz and encore for 3 months and i would not have to call and have it taken off the bill because it would automatically be removed. then he said all that for a small fee of 399.00. I imidiately said no stop what ever you are doing and do not make one change. he said hold please and came back with an offer of 200 dollars if i would give him my whole SSC #. I asked to speak to an english speaking person and he said hold please and came back with a fake very deep voice still with the accent and i said oh great you sound like a fraud too and thats when i hung up. So just by giving them the last 4 of my SSC # can they steal my identity or hurt me in any way? I would like to know that i am safe. Thats my story.

Call came in at 20:25 on 09/13/2018. Called ID showed Dish Network and number 800-333-3474.

Caller had Indian accent and seemed to be the same one who has in the past called before claiming my Microsoft Windows computer was calling Microsoft about technical issues. Caller asked if I was "my name" and I said "I am" as I never say "yes" on the phone. This call was about Dish Network planning to reposition their satellite and he needed the information from my receiver to ensure it would continue working. He wanted me to press the menu button my remote twice to get the receiver details like model number and other unique information. I quizzed him on what my account numbers should be since I already knew Dish had that information on file. I then asked him what my name was since he had called me. He gave me the name of the person who had my phone number 5+ years ago. At that point I told him that I knew he wasn't who he said he was and he hung up.

On the back of our Dish bill they specifically say "Dish Network will never call or email you asking for your person or Dish account related information. This includes your account number, receiver number, social security number, credit card information and PIN. Please do not give out this information."
