Direct Consumer Group Reports & Reviews (3)

- Columbus, OH, USA

Received a call from 213-283-8400 with a message stating "there is a formal complaint against you that needs immediate attention" and to call 877-479-3789. When I called back I get William stating there will be litigation filed against me from a utility company from 2005! Would not tell me who just said it could be AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Embark etc. but would not say who. Said I owed $875.xx but original was $567. I advised this does not appear on my credit report. And William stated it wouldn't because he didn't file court documents yet. I was very angry with him because he didn't give me a specific answer. I advised he needs to mail me the information he tried to say they have sent 2 notices to 3 previous addresses. I haven't moved in over 7 years and never received anything. Direct Consumer Group? I don't know if this is a scam or not but I never had anything on my credit report regarding this amount for debt collection. I mean it's sounding 12 years old!

Someone called my home, claiming that a law firm was planning on filing a civil complaint against me. They then proceeded to tell me I had a balance due of 900+ dollars from a phone account of some kind, They did have lots of relevant pieces of my information but were unable to provide who the phone carrier i owed money to. They then claimed they sent me a certified letter which i never received. But what makes it very suspect is that pretty much every debt collector has the same verbatim message when attempting to collect a debt and they did not. my credit report has no mention of this debt,This is called the "statute of limitations." The statute of limitations for filing a debt collection lawsuit for a "consumer credit transaction" is 6 years, counting from the "date of the default." The "date of the default" is about 30 days after you last made a payment. So their they can't possibly be suing me since they have passed the window.

I assisted a relative and this is what happened.

First I received a call from Jordan Davis - identifying herself as a mediator with "Process Server United." She directed me to Direct Consumer Group at 877-479-3789, I spoke to Amanda a "Supervisor". They even sent a letter that looked authentic saying I owed over $900 for an old cell phone bill. Another number used is 800-757-4096. When I asked about a website for payment, they said they only take it by phone, Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Their website even looks legitimate.

The "process server"/"mediator" said they filed a lawsuit, but, couldn't provide additional information. And when I sent a fax to get an original copy of the debt as well as had my legal counsel contact them, I never heard from them again. It was quite upsetting, but, it is an elaborate scam.

Also, their address is one of those UPS stores. What collection agency with a call center, does not have a real address? They are fake.
