The woman on the phone said that my credit card debt was going to be canceled because of the covid-19 pandemic. She asked me to get my credit card tell her what credit card I had with all the debt that I wanted to be canceled.

I receive calls from this company all the time as various numbers. Today they were posing as the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Every time it's the same thing:

"Hello (long pause) This is Linda Davis with Debt Free America" blah blah blah

It's a phishing scam. They want you information and money.

I received a phone call from someone who said that they were "Debt Free America" and that since I had not missed any credit card payments that I was eligible to have all of my credit card debt removed. When I would not give the person any information about my credit card I was transferred to someone who was supposed to be the supervisor and then that person kept asking me for credit card information. I did not give any information about my credit card and eventually just hung up.

They offered to get rid of all of our credit card debt. When I pushed to find out who pays for this debt that is erased and who pays their fees, I was transferred to a manager. I finally learned that they add 30-45% of your outstanding balance to your credit card and then contact your credit card company to eliminate it. I asked if the man knew what usury was and proceeded to explain it to him. I also told him that I was going to report them. So I am doing that right now!

NOTE: The phone number they used may not be their number; they may have hijacked an innocent person's phone number.

Mike Watkins 207-715-3865 Ext 20040 call back #. Claiming to be Debt Free America. Trans to supervisor to set up agreement. James Franklin 1-888-552-0219 No Ext. Advised I was under contract to buy a home and didn't have the loan approval yet. He told me I wouldn't be able to get a loan for 18 months while they worked on my credit card debt. My credit score would drop until they were finished and after 18 months it would go way up w/o the debt they would literally erase! To good to be true and I had to qualify for a mortgage, I was under contract. They didn't want to mess with a mortgage banker. So he gave his contact info advising I call when loan is finished.

Multiple call over the last 4 days claiming to be Debt Free America. The numbers are spoofed and have nothing to do with the real company.

I got a phone call that used a local area code and a three digit + 4 number that I recognized as an AT&T Mobility phone number so I answered it. The computer on the other end that sounded like a woman told me about a "Government program to eliminate consumer debt". When she asked if I was interested in the program I asked, "What was the name of the program again?" and she said, "GREAT! Let me get you over to a Sr. Manager.". This Sr. Manager was another automated voice that said, "I understand your interested in eliminateing consumer debt?". That was when I re-asked the question and he said he'd have to get my phone number and name first so I hung up. OBVIOUS scam but not an obvious automated voice interaction system. I only recognized it as such because I work in I.T. for many years and understand the scam.
