Barons worldwide Reports & Reviews (1)

On January 17, 2020, I decided retire from teaching after 28 years of service. After retirement, I have planned to relocate to Lima-Peru to spend my retirement years. Therefore, I hired the services of Barons Worldwide Movers, moving company based in Centennial, Colorado to shipped my personal belongings via ocean freight on a door to door service. From May of 2019 through January of 2020 I exchanged various e-mails and phone calls (even on Sundays) with Barons Worldwide international sales manager Helen Shady, and her sales team who insistently and very charmly, tried to convince me to earn top quality moving services. On January 2020, I hired Barons Worldwide movers and I signed a contract for a door to door moving service of a 20f container, self-packing, from Appleton, Wisconsin 54915 to San Isidro district in Lima, Peru for the total amount of $6,720.00 US dollars paid to Barons Worldwide.

The payment included the following services:

1- Deliver the container to Appleton Wisconsin.

2- loading the container in Appleton, WI (130 packages) 3 helpers

3- Rental of a 20 cubic feet container with one month free of rental charge upon arrival to port of destination.

4- Transportation of the container from Appleton to a sea port (New York).

5- Shipping the container from New York by ship to the port of Callao, Peru in a direct freight New York – Callao.

6- Delivery of the Bill of Landing to the owner of the container.

7- All expenses of shipment paperwork/port expenses in the United States.

8- A top quality, efficient moving service, a moving job done with transparency, honesty and punctuality during the service by Barons Worldwide International movers.

9- Full payment could be done either by money transfer, or check or credit card. (per Helen Shady’s assurance).

The loading of the container was scheduled at 10:00am on February 13th, 2020. On that day, the truck with the container arrived at 6:00am to the Appleton Storage facility on Washington st. After meeting with me, the truck driver demanded to load the container at 7:00am, so he could leave early. I reminded him that Barons Worldwide had scheduled the loading for 10:00am. Also, the moving helpers were supposed to arrived at the storage facility at 10:00am. The truck driver was not happy with what I said and went back to the truck to wait. At 11:45a.m. only one moving helper arrived to work. I contacted Barons’ office several times to ask about the helpers, they did not have a clue of their whereabouts. It was 2:45pm when the other 3 moving helpers showed up. They all claimed the late arrival and without any coordination was due to Barons Worldwide hired the helpers through Craigslist the night before to February 13th. I requested the help of the movers to Barons 10 days prior to February the 13th. The loading process of the container was finished at 5:45pm. This lack of logistical plan and organization during the loading process on February 13th had created a disruption to the activities of the tenants and customers of the storage facility. The dock at the storage was occupied by the truck beyond the time a truck is allowed to park. Also, various boxes and carts were used beyond the period of time permitted by the storage facility. Parts of the road inside the storage building were blocked by these boxes and carts, causing the difficult transit of people and cars. All these generated that customers / tenants of the storage facility reported and complained the circumstances to the manager’s office of the storage facility.

The container’s ETA arrival date to Lima - Peru was schedule for Saturday February 28th according to Rachel Harries Barons coordinator of the containers shipment. A few days later I received an e-mail with a new container’s ETA. The new date was for March 8th, 2020. Also, I was told that it was time for me to pay the bill for the moving services. I told Rachel Harris to proceed with the payment with my credit card on file at Barons Worldwide office, I was told straight forward the payment had to be done by wire transfer immediately. No payment, no service. I arrived in Lima Peru on February 17 and needed to wait for the arrival of the container. On March 8th, I found out that there was a new ETA for the container. The new date of arrival was for March 13th. Unfortunately, the rep of Baron Worldwide International Movers in Lima Peru, was doing a very poor job keeping informed on the arrival of the container.

On March 14th, I did not receive any information by the rep in Lima of my containers arrival. I was concerned and I decided to search the web for the location of my container. I found out through the web, that the vessel Valparaiso Express (were the container was supposed to arrived) had departed the port of Callao, Peru. I contacted Barons Worldwide Peru agent immediately and asked him if he knew anything about my container. Sr. Ortiz responded that he did not know anything and that he was going to do some phone calls. Two hours later I received a message from the agent saying that the container has been left behind in the port of Cartagena, Colombia. The agent added that he was not aware of the reasons why the container was left behind. In the meantime, I was still sitting in an empty apartment in Lima, Peru.

On Friday March 20th, I was told by the agent in Lima Sr. Ortiz, the new ETA of the container. The new ETA was for March 28th. This entire situation with changes of the containers arrivals dates, was creating severe moments of anxiety. After doing a little research on the web, I realized that I did not have with me the bill of landing of the container. Barons Worldwide moving company never bothered to send me the documents. The situation that was bothering a lot was the fact that I paid so much money for a direct cargo freight New York – Callao. I kept raising the question, why so many delays con the container? So many changes on the dates and the lack of accurate information I was getting from the agent in Peru and the Barons Worldwide Moving on the arrival of the container. It was a couple of days before the arrival of the container on March 28th there were two different Bill of landing. One issued at the departure of the port of New York and the other one issued upon arrival to the port of Callao. I raised my concern to the agent Rachel Harris. I pressured for a straight answer. Finally, I was told that my shipment was sent under Transshipped conditions. That meant that the cargo could stop in many ports and be changed into many different vessels until its final destination.

From March 28th through Friday May 1st the container was laying, in a warehouse at the Callao Port in Peru. Basically, Juan Carlos Ortiz rep in Peru of Barons Worldwide International Movers did nothing to expedite the paperwork for the container to be release from Peruvian customs grounds in a timely manner. Instead Juan Carlos Ortiz rep of Baron Worldwide in Peru waited an entire month, waiting for the 30 days free rental of the container from COSCO to expire. Also, Juan Carlos Ortiz waited for the 30 days free rental space to expire at the warehouse of IMUPESA were the container was in storage.

I was in Lima Peru since February 17th. I arrived in Lima with 2 pieces of luggage. I did not buy anything counting with the arrival of my personal belongings on March 8th. The container was not release until May 8th 2020. My belongings were never delivered to my home. I had to rent a truck, hired a couple of helpers, and collect my belongings from IMUPESA storage facility at the port of Callao. I had to bring the 130 packages home, carried them up to the 8th floor and unpacked them by myself.

The names of companies I’m mentioning, such as COSCO, IMUPESA, Moving Systems, ECUWORLDWIDE working for Barons Worldwide were never disclosed to me. I never received the Bill of Landing for the direct shipment of my container. The undisclosed transshipment freight of my container, this after I was told that the container was going to be shipped on a direct freight from the port of New York to the port of Callao, that explains the outcome.

In conclusion,

1- I hired a moving company for the amount $6,720.00 to shipped a 20f container to Peru after Barons Worldwide promised a A-1 moving service. Instead I had a 3rd class service were my belongings were going from one port to another and abandon in a different country for two weeks. Barons Worldwide lack of professionalism and personalize service after I paid for their services ahead of time, it is an evidence on the outcome of my experience.

2- Peruvian Customs office gave a green light for my container to be inspected and released in a timely manner within 2 weeks of its arrival. Instead Barons Worldwide representative in Peru, waited for the entire month for the deadlines for free storage and free usage of the container to expire, so overcharges have to be paid.

3- Extra payments made to companies that work for Barons Worldwide movers are as follow:

a- Barons Worldwide representative in Peru Mr. Juan Carlos Ortiz the amounts of $120.00 and $180.00 US dollars for his services.

b- ECUWORLDWIDE vessel expenses the amount $308.00 US dollars

c- Local port taxes S/780.00 Peruvian soles.

d- To COSCO container company for extra days of rental $1185.60 US dollars.

e- To IMUPESA the storage facility area for extra days of storage $1,222.00 US dollars

f- To Moving Systems the amount of $250.00 US dollars to return the container to port.

g- The amount of $1,200.00 US dollars to pay for the rental of the truck and the helpers to bring my belongings from the port of Callao to my flat in Lima.

4- From February 18Th through May 8th of 2020 I lived a total nightmare. I lived in an empty apartment, with no belongings. I put my life and health at risk. All this does not have a price.

I do not wish this experience I lived with Barons Worldwide moving services to anyone.

Therefore, I request Barons Worldwide moving company the reimbursement of $7,000.00 US dollars for not fulfilling their moving services as I was assured and promised

Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
